Light never loved him.
The false 'I love you's' said every night were fake, like Light's feelings for him. L knew this. Hell, he'd been suspicious since the time Light admitted to having feelings for him. He wasn't a well-known detective for nothing. Yet, L chose to ignore this.
He chose to ignore it when Light got his memories back.
He looked the other way when Light planned his death.
And he denied it even when he lay dying in Light's arms.
After all, he lived in a world of lies. So why not die in one?
