Many, many years ago, I had another Digimon Data Squad fanfic here on FF, but I removed it after I couldn't keep writing, no matter how hard I tried. But now I'm back with a new and fresh fanfic, but I'll add some elements that used to be in the old version.

Marcus, Thomas and Yoshino are a bit older than originally; Marcus, Thomas: 17, and Yoshino: 22. Marcus is in the third year of high school.

My two OCs are 19 respective 22; Eve Sampson and David Sampson. You can find their pictures on my DeviantArt account.

The fanfic will mainly be in Eve's point of view.

Disclaimer: I do not own any Digimon characters! I only own my OCs!

Chapter 1: There Are Monsters Among Us

I was riding on my purple motorcycle, sleek and sporty, with red and blue blinking lights toward the location where Agumon was last seen. He ran away from DATS this morning just as I had returned from a kendo national championship in Hokkaido. So instead of getting some time to rest after the long flight, I had to chase after the orange dinosaur.

Yoshino, Lalamon, David, who was my foster brother, and Huckmon could've taken the mission, but the Commander trusted me and my Digimon partner Dorumon to take care of him. Agumon was one of the few Digimon who came to the Human World in Digi-Egg form. He hatched without having someone who matched his D.N.A., so DATS kept him caged and locked away for future decisions. I didn't like that, so Dorumon and I sometimes spent time with Agumon and talked to him and I even brought him some home cooked food once in a while. The Commander, who was also my foster father, knew about this and allowed us to be with Agumon, as long as we didn't set him free. We became very close and I didn't want him to go back to the Digital World. I knew he came to the Human World for a reason. We just haven't found it yet.

I reached Area B-7 and braked my motorcycle nearby a sealed-off park by the local police. Citizens had gathered around, wondering what was going on, but they were shooed away by the law enforcement personnel. DATS had contacted me minutes ago that they had told the police there was a gas leak and I had to go and investigate it, while I was actually on my mission to secure Agumon. I removed my helmet with dark purple and lavender flames and put it away beneath the seat subspace. I adjusted my purple DATS uniform and glasses before walking over to the police while pulling out my DATS badge from my white fanny bag.

"Sorry, no one's allowed in-", one of the officers began, but stopped when I showed him my badge.

"I'm a special agent from DATS", I announced. "How is the evacuation?"

"There seems to be some kind of a hole, just south of this area", the officer replied.

"Eve!" Dorumon called from my Digivice.

I unhooked the device from my belt and held it up, seeing Dorumon on the screen. "Yes?"

"We're picking up signs of life 500 meters away."

"Is it the target?" I asked, being careful not to say Agumon's name in the public.

"No. Humans", Dorumon shook his head.

I gasped in shock and climbed through the sealed-off tape to run into the park. Had Agumon gone berserk and hurt humans? I told him if he would ever escape from DATS, he wasn't allowed to attack people randomly. If he really did it, then this was now serious!

I reached a big area of the park and saw several young men around my age lying on the ground, all of them unconscious, but some of them were groaning in pain. When I took a closer look, I realized they were dressed in high school uniforms. They were just kids!

I reached for my earpiece. "This is Eve. We have 15 victims down who need medical attention!"

"Affirmative! We'll call the ambulance!" Miki replied.

I kept looking around to find Agumon, but he wasn't among the students. I headed to some stairs that led to another part of the park when I finally saw him!

But he wasn't alone.

He was facing a young man, maybe in the same age as the unconscious high school boys, who had auburn hair that reached the nape of his neck while part of it was tied back in a half-ponytail, olive green eyes, tanned skin and was dressed in a white shirt, red short-sleeved and open jacket, blue jeans and red sneakers. He also had a white string with a dog tag around his neck. I couldn't help but feel he looked familiar, but I couldn't remember from where.

I reached once again for my earpiece. "I found Raptor-1!" I shook inwardly in disgust that I had to use Agumon's codename and not his real name during this mission. "And he seems to be engaging another human!"

Neither Agumon nor the boy saw me as their eyes were glaring at each other.

"I don't know who you are, but you're standing in the middle of my turf!" the boy shouted, which Agumon growled back at. "This is my training ground! One day I'm gonna be a champion ultimate fighter! Fans all over will chant my name! They'll say 'Marcus Damon is the best!'!"

Okay, the boy's confidence was off the charts, but didn't he sense fighting an unfamiliar creature could be dangerous?

"Try ya!" Agumon retorted irritably. "Boy, you're really full of yourself! You're just like all the other humans! All talk and no action!"

Why did I suddenly get the feeling that these two were actually compatible? They had the exactly same eyes and I wasn't talking about their green eye colors. They had the same fire burning in their spirits.

"Keep it up, and I'll knock you out just like I did these guys!" Marcus snarled.

"What did you do, just talk them all to sleep?" Agumon retorted.

Wait… What did Marcus just say? So he was the one who was responsible of the knocked out high school students and not Agumon?

"Eve!" Father called from the earpiece, snapping me out of my thoughts. "What are you waiting for? Get that civilian away from Raptor-1!"

I nodded to myself before shouting to the high school boy. "Hey, boy! Get away from him at once! You can't fight that creature! He's too dangerous!"

Marcus looked up with a glare and studied me for two seconds before he spat irritably. "Look, toots, I'm the dangerous fighter here and I don't need any babysitter to hold my hand!"

"He's right! This is between him and me!" Agumon nodded.

"This is a fight between men, so stay out of it, cobra!" Marcus added.

"What did you just call me?!" I exclaimed in surprise.

No one had ever called me "cobra" before. I had heard about bullying in schools, but I hadn't experienced it because I used to be homeschooled and my friends and colleagues at DATS respected me.

"Calm down, Eve!" Dorumon called from the Digivice.

Before I knew it, Marcus and Agumon charged forward and punched each other in the face. But the most surprising thing was Marcus was still standing after getting punched by the Digimon. Both of them were pushed back by the force before resume fighting. Agumon even kicked Marcus in the groin, which made me flinch a bit. That must have hurt. Even so, Marcus kept fighting Agumon despite taking serious hit from the Digimon's claws. It was both shocking and amazing to see.

But a little voice in the back of my head said this boy was meant to be Agumon's human partner.

The sun was down by the horizon when Marcus and Agumon gave up fighting each other. They were both covered in bruises and sweat. I had stayed and watched the whole fight like a boring movie, but now when they were weak I could confront them and bring Agumon back to DATS.

They must have forgotten about me because they both got surprised when I called them. "Time-out!"

Agumon blinked his big eyes. "Eve?"

I held up my Digivice. "Dorumon: Realize!"

The digital particles erupted from the Digivice and formed Dorumon in front of me. "I'm ready."

Marcus gasped at the sight of my Digimon partner while Agumon jumped up on his feet, looking ready to run away. "What is that thing?" the boy questioned.

I paid no attention on Marcus as I looked at Agumon. "Agumon, I hate to do this, but I need to bring you back to DATS."

"What's she talking about?" Marcus asked.

"Don't let them take me back, Boss, please!" Agumon whimpered. "If they get me this time, they'll destroy me for sure!"

"What?!" Marcus gaped.

I watched the duo, ready to tell Dorumon to attack, when Marcus suddenly picked up Agumon. "Stop, what are you doing?!"

Marcus put Agumon on his back and I was shocked to see he could carry Agumon, because I knew he was heavy. "I've never had an employee before, and I'm not turning my only one over to you!"

"Tell her, Boss!" Agumon grinned.

Marcus attempted to run away with Agumon, but I was not having it. "Halt! Come back here!"

"Metal Shoot!" Dorumon ran after duo while shooting several metal bullets from his mouth to stop them.

The bullets hit the pavement around Marcus, which made him stop running. I was running toward him when I saw flames coming out from Agumon's mouth.

"Pepper Breath!"

Agumon spewed a fireball toward me. I had no time to dodge it, but my loyal partner ran in between me and the fireball attack.

"Dash Metal!"

Dorumon fired an iron sphere from his mouth at the fireball. When the two attacks collided, the fireball exploded into a huge cloud of dust and smoke. I covered my mouth and closed my eyes to shield myself from the smoke. Once the smoke cleared up, I was ready to tackle Marcus down to the ground when I saw he and Agumon were gone.

"Oh no…", I mumbled in defeat. "Commander will not like this…"

Dorumon snorted before he walked back to me. "But you're not hurt, Eve. That's what it counts."

I nodded softly. "Yeah… Thank you, Dorumon. But I'm worried about Agumon. And that boy's safety."

I called back Dorumon into my Digivice and turned around to leave the park and drive to DATS to leave a report. I still couldn't get it out of my head about where I had seen Marcus before.

After I left my report to Father, I got the permission to go home since I still needed to rest after the flight I had this morning. Father said Yoshino would take over the chase after Marcus and Agumon.

Dorumon and I had eaten a silent dinner, so I was right now in my bedroom brushing my ebony hair in front of my make-up desk's mirror. I wasn't the typical girly girl, but I sometimes used make-up when necessary, especially for important dinners with other employees of DATS and the director who I disliked a lot.

Dorumon lied on my bed, curled up like a ball, and snored against his tail. This gave me some time to talk with the voice in my head.

"A.H.? Are you there?"

"Good evening, Eve. What is on your mind?"

You see, ever since I was found by Father, I always had a voice in my head. The voice said he was the remaining data of a lost Digimon, but he refused to give me his real identity. He did tell me to call him A.H. that was the initials of a title he used to have while he was alive. I had no idea how he ended up in my body and, apparently, he had forgotten about it as well. The only one who knew about A.H. was Dorumon. So I had kept him hidden from my family and DATS for nine years.

"You saw everything that happened today, right?"

"I did. Are you concerned about Agumon?"

"Yes. Dorumon and I became so close to him. I'm still relieved that he didn't hurt those 15 high school boys, but… You could sense the connection between him and Marcus just as I did?"

"Yes. They are meant to be partners. If things go according to the path of fate, they should not only become partners but also become members of DATS."

"If they agree to it, especially Marcus. He seems to be the stubborn type, but…he's not a bad kid. I didn't sense any negative feelings from him."

"That is a good thing. But do you know what I am sensing right now?"

"What?" I asked as I rubbed my heavy eyelids.

"You are barely awake. Go and get some sleep. You need to focus on tomorrow's missions. I have a feeling they could be related to our runaway duo."

"You're right", I nodded as I put down the brush on the make-up desk.

I stood up and walked over to my bed. I got on it and pulled the covers over me and Dorumon. Dorumon purred in delight as he crept a bit closer to me in his sleep. I turned off the lamp on the nightstand and placed an arm over my Digimon partner.

"Good night…", I whispered softly to both Dorumon and A.H. before I closed my eyes and fell asleep within seconds.
