Cygnus (the swan)
There was a pond, and in that pond there were two swans. One swan was from earth and the other came from the heavens. People would look at the swans and noticed that one of them glowed in the dark. The glowing swan was the one that came from the heavens. This swan imitated a beautiful blue glow that every one can see. As people would approach it, the brighter the swan was. Other people thought that the swan was radioactive. These people would stay away from the swan.
On the clear nights, people would find the glowing swan fly up to the heaven where it would stay. Some people in the village believed that glowing swan was a ghost. On a cloudy night one young girl was curious and went down to the pond. She would sit there until it appeared. One night the girl saw the swan fly up to the heavens and turned into a constellation. The little girl would make it a habit of trying to find the swan constellation, or find it glowing in the pond.
One day the young girl told her friends and family about the "ghost" swan. They never believed her and thought she was imagining things. One night, when she saw the swan, the little girl called her family to see the swan. She also called her friends to see the swan glow in the pond. The swan approached the little girl and stared to glow brighter. Pretty soon everyone could only see the blue light from the swan.
The news of the unusual swan spread through the village like wild fire. With in a week everyone came to see the swan in the pond or fly up to the heavens. One family friend said that the swan was the spirit of a wealthy girl that died. The friend proceeded to tell the story of the rich girl who liked swans. According to the story the girl would look at the stars and died of a rare illness. The family friend said that she came back as a glowing swan that would sometimes fly up to the heavens to watch everyone. This story made the little girl sad and she hoped the swan would have peace.
Everyone went to the pond every night to see the peaceful glowing of the swan spirit. Everyone found that the sight of the swan relaxed them and they kept coming back. Sometimes people would look up into the night sky to find the swan constellation.
