The team are in Brighton on a case, but for once they have the day off.

Nikki wakes to a text from Matt at ten, the lack of noise from the next room tells her that Clarissa and Max are already up-the couple are early risers and are most likely going to the beach before the swarm of tourists.

From Matt is a good morning text, followed by another one, suggested they meet at one for dinner. She smiles, and confirms their plans.

She thinks that she loves him, ever since they met she's been walking on air.

However, for a couple of weeks something has been niggling at her. Jack has been dating a DI he met at work, something about seeing the pair of them together makes Nikki uneasy.

Nikki gets showered and dressed, then makes her way downstairs.

In the dining room, she spots Thomas and Jack, with a smile she ambles over.

"Is this seat taken?" She asks, gesturing to an empty chair next to Thomas.

"Nope." Jack says, putting his phone down. "As you've probably guessed, Clarissa and Max are already out."

"Uh huh." His friend nods. "Right," she continues, putting her bag down on her seat."I'm off to get some breakfast."

Nikki gets some bacon, eggs, black pudding, and some toast. After that, she makes her way back to the table.

"Got enough there?" Thomas chuckles.

"Ah, sod it. We're basically on holiday." Nikki shrugs.

She eats her breakfast, a frown on her face, scrolling through her phone.

Thomas notices that Jack is also frowning at his phone. "What's up with you two?"

"Rose broke up with me."

"Erm, I'm stuck on Candy Crush." Nikki fibs, finishing her dinner.

"You hate Candy Crush. You called it a load of money grabbing wank when I introduced it to you." Jack frowns. "Why the change of heart?"

"Um, I downloaded a different version. Must fly!" She responds, gathering her things up and whizzing off.

"Strange." Jack frowns. "Love does funny things to a person."

"It does." Thomas agrees.

Nikki walked along the seafront to clear her head, squinting in the sun.

She was excited to see Matt, of course. But, he was more keen than she was-as much as she appreciated that, she didn't feel the same.

She sat down on a bench, looking out to sea. She knew who she really loved-Jack. Sweet, caring, Jack. Her best friend, confidante, and colleague.

Every time he put his hand on the small of her back, when he looked at her in a certain way, talked to her in a certain way, her heart did backflips.

Matt interrupted her thoughts, and she broke up with him, still wanting to remain on good terms.

After that, Nikki decides to go back to the hotel, and tell Jack her feelings.

She's nervous, very nervous in fact, but she knows that she won't regret it.

Jack is just making his way out of the hotel, and he spots Nikki.

"Hi." She smiles, making her way up to him. "Matt and me... We've broken up."

"Oh." He frowns. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay." Nikki responds, and takes his arm. "Jack, we need to talk."

"Okay..." Jack replies, knowing instantly what she wants and who she wants.

They make their way into the lobby, and sit down.

"Jack..." She starts, but he places a finger to her lips, and stops her.

"I know. You broke up with Matt because... Because you have feelings for me. I did the same with Rose."

Nikki gasped. "You... You did?"

"Yes, and I was on my way to crash your date. Evidently, I didn't need to. I love you, Nikki." Jack replied.

"I love you too." She grins, and kisses him, and suddenly, everything is finally, finally right in their world.
