He slid his sunglasses on. On the outside, he might've looked like some unfeeling guy with no worries. But the people who saw him like that obviously didn't know him. They obviously didn't care.
The war between good and evil had finally ended. It was time for new beginnings. But how could he start again when all that filled him were thoughts of what he had before?
The only thoughts that filled his eyes were those of her. Her smile, her angry face, the face she wore when she had tried to show that she cared about what he did. But no matter how hard he thought about it, he opened his eyes to find only emptiness.
He bent over an old fountain. When he looked inside, all her saw was her face. All he could do now was feel regret.
He blinked and splashed water on his face. But this time, her reflection didn't disappear. He smiled bitterly to himself. Had the day finally come? Had he finally gone crazy? That wouldn't be so bad. It would definitely be better than living a life knowing what he had lost.
But no matter how hard he stared, the reflection didn't go away. All he saw was her disappointed face. He turned around, silently praying he wasn't hallucinating. He wasn't.
"Tifa!" he said silently. She looked at him with a mixture of sadness and love in her eyes. What had he become after they had lost each other? Why had she been so stupid as to think that he'd be okay if she was gone? He had already lost so many people.
She had hesitated for too long. She should have been true to her feelings for this broken man in front of her. So this time, without hesitating, she stuck out her hand for him to take.
He looked at her with broken eyes. But this time they contained a spark of hope. He shakily took her hand. She knelt down in front of him and embraced him. He held onto her as if she was the only thing that clung him to life. He drew back slowly, and with half-lidded eyes, he leaned in and gently connected his lips with hers.
He opened his eyes.
It was no longer just a dream.
