Promises

Bobby knocked on Kitty's door. He had just gotten done seeing his one-of-a-kind girlfriend and had decided to see how his once-best-friends'- girlfriend was.

"Come in." He heard her sob. Bobby walked in and suddenly he could barely stand what John had done. To them, but more importantly to her.

They talked for awhile. Bobby had always thought of the Shadowcat as a little sister.

Kitty sat there in her tears, "You have Rogue and I have..." She had Pyro. She still had him. John came in at strange times, when no one would know to see her. Then he stopped coming. Stopped promising his promises. John, no Pyro started breaking those promises.

"I know Kitty. You aren't the only one he betrayed." Bobby seethed.

She gazed at her friend, "No, but I'm the only one he broke when he betrayed us."

She remembered each promise.

I promise we'll get away from all of this, all of these problems between the normals and us.

Before John left, way before. When it was all about just the two of them and both never needed more than one another.

I promise I'll never leave you.

Things just started picking up and blowing apart. Everyone was unsettled by having mutants around after Magneto. John said that he would never leave because he'd always protect Kitty. He couldn't stand to be without her... Then the attack on the mansion came that night.

I promise I'll take you to Magneto with me.

After Pyro betrayed them all, her. Kitty sat and cried. Stopping when she heard a tap on the window. It was her love. She let him in that night. He was crying too. She refused to go, but Pyro said he wouldn't let it up. That they were going to be together forever. He left and Kitty's love and respect for him died a little and turned into anger.

I promise that you'll come with me next time I visit. I think Magneto is close to saying you can come.

She had given in. Kitty couldn't help it with him. Pyro swore that they'd be on the same side. She pleaded he come back then. He had yelled no, that the X-Men weren't worth his time. Kitty stood on her own angry and not looking back, "If you're so sick of the X-Men, John, then you are sick of me to. Because that is what I am."

I promise... I promise...

So dearly whispered promises. He never came back after their fight. Quickly after that Kitty was up there with Bobby, Wolverine, Beast, Storm, and Colossus. Them against Magneto's army. They won.

She saw him once after that. So far, at least. Pyro had snuck in to see her again.

"So this is it? I'm not important enough for you that you'd choose me over them!?" Fierce anger, betrayal, and sadness.

"Yes John," Kitty answered, "Now this is war. I'm not going to give up my family and friends for someone who would give me up in less than a second passing by."

He smiled so sadistically, "You can't leave me Kitty. I'll win you back."

Kitty shook his head at him, "No, Pyro. Not now since you are the enemy."

When the boy tried to come close she phased out of the room. It's over. Floating between them.

Shadowcat turned to her two love- bird friends. In each others arms, kissing, now that Rogue gotten 'the cure'. She smiled, "I'll be just fine on my own, John."

A new start.
