Screams of pain and horror echoed down the narrow halls, the shouts bringing pain like no other to her ears. It was hell, a living torture to hear. She could only imagine what was causing it. A growl, a sign she wasn't alone snapped her out of her trance. Whatever was there was clearly did not enjoy her presence. She did her best to ignore, increasing her pace, panic settling in. Another growl, much closer now, sent her into a spiraling terror as she sprinted down the hall. Suddenly weight pressed upon her, pushing to the floor, she tried to scream, call for help. But no noise left her throat. She felt sharp fangs bite into her before she woke up.
Eight quickly sat up, sweating from the night terror she just had. She looked down at her body, not seeing the tights she'd rather not remember, but seeing a pale nightgown and matching pants. Relief washed over her, it was just a dream. Looking around her dark room she could tell it was fairly late, the only light radiating from the city outside her window. She took a shaky breath, that dream-no that nightmare had felt so real. She took another, much calmer deep breath before heaving herself out of bed. This wasn't the first time she had experienced night terrors while staying on the surface with Three, so she knew exactly what to do.
She walked towards her door and opened it slowly, although she was awake, she didn't want to disturb Three who sleeping a few feet away. Eight walked down the narrow hall that connects her bedroom to the rest of the apartment and walked out towards their living room. It was fairly small, a couch television and a small kitchen connected to the living room. It wasn't much, but it was definitely better than any living conditions she had ever had. Near the television there was a sliding glass door that lead to the balcony. Without hesitation Eight walked over to the door. Carefully sliding the door open she stepped outside to look out upon the city.
It was a fairly chilly morning with a mist hanging over the city. She shivered at the feeling of the cold air nipping at her shoulders, gnawing at her exposed skin. Ignoring the cold she walked towards the railing and looked out at the city infront of her. The sky was still fairly dark, yet it had hints of the colorful morning trying to break through the evenings gloom. She smiled at the sight, the feeling of the cold and the pleasant hue of the sky reminded her that she had made it through hell and back, she was free. That freedom she had dreamt of for so long was finally here.
She doesn't know exactly know how long she stood there and watched. She does know however, that the morning she had awoken to was much further in its development. The dark hues of the night had passed as bright red and orange filled the sky with blue streaks radiating from the assortment of colors. She stopped staring at the sky and walked back into her humble abode and walked back to her room. She grabbed her phone and looked at the time, it read 7:30 am. She guessed she woke up around 6 maybe 6:30, but it didn't matter either way because there was one thing on her phone that brought a smile to her face. That one thing, was her lockscreen's photo. The photo was a simple selfie of her and Three, smiles adorning their faces. To say she didn't have feelings for her was blasphemy, but that's for her to handle another day. For now she would enjoy the simple things she had.
