My first VLD fan fiction! Anywho, I saw an AU idea online along the lines of this story, y'know, rick-rolling the school and stuff. And so, I thought of Klance and I decided to write this!

Notes:
- Keith, Lance, Pidge/Katie, and Hunk are all 12 or 13.
- Shiro would be in his early 20's.
- The Kogane parents decided to adopt Shiro at some point and in a decade or so, had Keith. They, sadly passed away in this story. :(

I hope that made sense! This story definitely isn't great but, oh well, ENJOY ~ :D

'Never Gonna Give You Up'

Altea Middle School's talent show was held at the last day before Christmas break. Many different talents were shown and most performances were well-performed and entertaining. Eighth grader Keith Kogane, however, was more interested in going back home to his bed and sleeping all day. But because his adoptive brother and guardian, Mr. Shirogane, was a teacher at the school, he basically had no choice but show up.

As the students of his homeroom was in the front row, so was he. And so, Keith just sat there, with an uninterested expression on his face. In what seemed like a hundred years, the hosts, Hunk Garrett and Katie Holt, finally stepped into the makeshift stage to announce the final act through giggles.

"Alright, everyone," Hunk paused to quietly laugh, "Our last performance for the day will include everyone's favourite song!"

He passed the index card to Katie as she began to speak, "Please welcome, the one and only, Lance McClain!"

Of course, it had to be Keith's so-called "rival". The one who always tries to one-up him. And the one who claims that HE is the one one-upping him. Truth be told, Keith never tried to be better than him, but, oh well, what can he do now?

He still finds Lance annoying to be around.

As the McClain positioned the microphone, the music started to play. Groans and laughter filled the school Gym for the song was Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. Lance grinned at the reactions as he started to sing the first few lines.

"Oh my God," Keith mumbled as he dug his face in his hands, "Of course he chose that song. Of course."

At the last chorus, the boy finally managed to look up. The performer took notice and sent a wink to his direction. Keith, knowing that Lance was the flirt that he is, tried to convince himself that it was directed to two of the girls sitting beside him because of their squealing. Even at that, he had a feeling the wink was for him which made his gut turn. Somehow, it wasn't in disgust.

Somehow, his cheeks turned tomato red at the thought of it.

No, that's just silly. That wink wasn't a big deal! The wink was just him taunting him like the "rival" he is. Wait, where did he get the idea that it was directed at him?

'Keith, you already know that it was for those girls beside you!' he thought furiously.

Somehow, he didn't think that was true.

Before he knew it, the song ended and the people filled out of the school. Still lost in thought, Keith continued to just sit there.

"Hey, Mullet!" a voice made him jump. The voice belonged to none other than Lance, himself. "Did you like my act so much that you decided to stick around longer?" he asked as he returned the microphone to its place.

"Ah, no, your performance was terrible," Keith replied. Replied. "Plus, Shiro is a teacher meaning he'll stay here for a little bit. I just- I got lost in my thoughts, I guess?"

"Aw, were you thinking about that wink I sent to your direction?"

Oh, so, it was for him.

"No!" protested flustered Keith, "I was thinking about going back to bed and stuff to do throughout the break!"

Lance laughed, "Oh well, suit yourself, Mullet! But, I gotta go... Goodbye!" He sent him another wink as he walked towards the door.

'God dang it.'

"Aw, that's adorable!"

"We saw that, y'know."

Keith turned his head to see Katie and Hunk. "Oh, for the love of-"
