Birthday Dreams
Summary: James continues to pinch himself to make sure this birthday wish is real, and not another dream!
Author's Note: Just some random ficlet that popped in my head at work one night.

"Alice! I know….but not now! Maybe I shouldn't really. But, oh. Maybe I should! But I don't want to ruin any progress of our friendship. Because, it's really been great and-"
"Lily! Just do it! You know you want to-"
"I know, but-"
"But nothing1 I'm not going to take this stress anymore. Come on. Frank already has James ready, and I'm sure he's getting antsy, so get your arse up there! It's his birthday, remember? No disappointing the birthday boy."
"Yes, but-"
But whatever Lily objected to, no one would ever find out. For at that precise moment, Alice flung open the 6th year boys dorm and shoved Lily in. Frank rushed out, but not before shooting Lily a sympathetic smile.
The door slammed. Lily gulped. This was it.
James poked his head out of the curtains of his bed, his face covered by a red and gold scarf.
"Frank? Where did you go? I WANT MY SURPRISE!"
"You sound just like Sirius when he thinks he's going to miss breakfast," Lily stated calmly, although highly and obviously irritated by James' immaturity.
James fell off his bed and ripped off the scarf.
"Lily! What are you doing here? Frank said he had a birthday surprise for me and drug me up here 20 minutes ago. I've been waiting, quite patiently, I might add, in the dark, and-"
James sat stock still. He reached and pinched his leg to make sure this wasn't another one of his dreams. But this dream was REAL!
LILY EVANS WAS KISSING JAMES POTTER!
Lily broke the kiss, sent James a smirk, and ran out the door, giggling.
James sat in shock, pinched himself again (making sure it wasn't one of those annoying double dreams), and chased Lily out of Gryffindor tower. Lily's giggles were faintly heard as James chased her around the grounds.
Finally, both 17-year-olds collapsed in the middle of the Quidditch pitch, catching their breath.
James turned and looked at Lily, who was starring at the darkening sky, her emerald green eyes focused on the setting sun, with a goofy grin smeared on his face.
"Lily, do you really like me?"
Lily turned to the handsome, messy haired young man next to her. Thinking over the past few years, she flashed him a giant smile. She nodded her head enthusiastically.
James jumped up, and did a lap around the Quidditch pitch by foot, pinching himself as he came back to where Lily was now sitting, laughing at his behavior. He reached down and pulled Lily up to him. He leaned down and kissed Lily soundly on the lips.
"This is the best birthday. EVER!"
And Lily just laughed happily.
I hope that you enjoyed it! Read and Review, please!
