A/N: Just a little drabble.
Yesterday there was blood. And fear. And misery. The days were long, and the nights were longer. I was sent here to save lives. And I have. In this quagmire of war, that is my only success. But it has come at a large price. One I was not willing to pay, but that has been taken from me anyway.
My spirit, my hope, my senses...they have been stolen from me, and I do not know if I will ever get them back.
Today you came into my life. Your eyes, blue as the sky, were hopeful - full of innocence. Something I hadn't seen in a very long time. It gave me hope. For the future. You trusted me with your friendship. You pulled me back from the edge of despair. A gift that I still don't know if I can ever reciprocate.
You became my anchor, holding me steady in the rocky sea of life.
Tomorrow we will be home. We've made promises that may be impossible to keep. I fear I may never see you again. Be that as it may, I will hold you in my heart forever.
