Red,

White,

Blue,

Colors that surround the American nation,

And his patriotic pride.

Whether it's on the flags,

Or the shirts,

Or the fireworks gleaming in the night sky,

There is not a single explanation for why the colors mean so much.

Red is the color of the love he has for his people,

White is the purity of the children, who pledge loyalty to him,

And blue,

Blue was the color of his lover's tears,

Falling sorrowfully down his face as he gained independence.

He was never warned that freedom came with a price.

Crimson is the color of blood shed in eighteen-twelve,

Snow white were the faces who witnessed the horrid event in nineteen forty-one.

Azure was the sad hue that filled his shattered eyes in two thousand and one.

But they meant so much more to him,

Since they were not mere colors that represented him, his history, and his people.

Red were the tears cried in betrayal when he was stabbed in the back by Ivan,

White was the clarity of his friendship for Kiku, a former enemy,

Blue was the color of the oceans that connected him with everyone else.

Red was the passion that was shared between he and Arthur,

White was the winter snow when he played hockey for fun with Matthew,

Blue was the sky that hung above him whenever his friends were around.

His culture,

His foods,

His people,

Himself,

His nationality,

His limited humanity,

America,

Alfred,

Redder than blood shed for justice,

Whiter than the purity of liberty,

Bluer than the waters of freedom.

Red,

White,

And blue.

(A/N: Happy birthday, America! I was too sick to go to the parade, so I decided that an Independence Day poem was in order to celebrate.

Historical References:

The War of 1812- fought between the United States and Great Britain over trade. There wasn't an official winner, and no treaty was signed.

1941- America got involved in the second world war when the pacific island nation of Japan launched a surprise attack of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After the war ended, and two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the two nations made amends. Japan sent 3,000 cherry blossom trees to Washington DC as a sign of friendship (but I'm not sure when).

September 11, 2001- More commonly known as 9/11. Terrorists led presumably by the group Al Qaeda flew planes into both the world trade centers, also called the "Twin Towers" and attempted to also land one on the White House. This started the American war in Iraq that is yet to be resolved as of 7/4/10. Condolences are given to the families who lost loved ones.

"stabbed in the back by Ivan"- Russia, known then as the Soviet Union was an ally to the United States after turning on the Axis Powers-Germany, Italy, and Japan- in the second world war. Soon after both were dubbed "world powers" and the two nations began a competition over which country was the most powerful. Although it caused numerous wars such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War, the United States and the Soviet Union never actually fought against one another, in fear of starting a nuclear war that put the entire world at risk. In the late 1980's the Soviet Union collapsed, and separated into four nations, and the United States and Russia were on friendly terms once again.

Yeah, trust a History nerd like me to have an author's not longer than the whole damn poem. Well, happy fourth, everyone, and happy birthday, Alfred!
Oh, by the way ,if I owned Hetalia, there would be world peace and uh…Oh, yeah! Canada (that IS his name, isn't it?) would finally get to say something!
