Biggest Regret
Disclaimer: I don't earn Gilmore Girls.
Summary: Jess is back in California. Rory is at Yale. They both examine their lives and realize their biggest regret. They're not so different after all. One shot.
A/N: Okay, so this is my second fic. I was basically bored when I came up with this idea because I'm waiting for orangecountygurl to bring me our fan fiction Vital Signs because we have like seven chapters on paper and I can't remember it. So on with the story.
Jess sat on the beach. He had gone to Rory's dorm asking-no pleading with her to come with him. He knew she would say no, but he had to do it. If only Liz didn't get married. If only he never went back to Star's Hollow. He would still have been out with his dad in California.
But it was a little bit too late for that now. He had gone and screwed up yet again. He was a screw up. He screwed up when he crashed Rory's car. He screwed up when left Rory, twice for that matter. And he screwed up when he asked her to come. No wonder. He was a Mariano. That's what they do. Screw up.
He pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and played with it.
He shouldn't have left Rory and he knew it. He had never felt about anybody the way he felt about Rory. He loved her. But he instead of telling her, her ran. He ran from everything. From everything that was good to him. From Luke, from Rory, hell, even school.
But it was too late now. And he knew it. It was his biggest regret, leaving Rory like he did, but it was too late and he put the cigarette back in his pocket.
Rory sat in her dorm staring distantly out the window. Jess came back. He asked her to leave with him. He asked her for another chance. He told her that he was ready. That he had changed. But she said no.
When Jess left Rory felt as though her heart had been ripped out and stomped on. She loved him. But he ran. He turned on her. Her and everything that had been good for him. As much as Rory left him she couldn't forgive him.
She should have been able to. She wanted to. But she decided not to. She told him she wasn't going to pine, so she pretended that she didn't. She hid her feelings well. Just like he did. So when he admitted to her that he loved her, instead of kissing him like she wanted to, she just stood there and watched him drive away. She couldn't forgive herself for that. But once again, he left.
He came back though. And asked her to leave. She said no. And that would forever be, her biggest regret.
