This is a one shot based off a suggestion from the wonderful Pipes on Twitter. Seriously, girl, you're my favorite person. :)
As soon as Kate heard the opening notes of the song, she knew she was in for some fun. She set the toys she'd been carrying to the toy box down and turned up the song. Instantly, Whitney Huston's voice filled the loft and Kate's smile stretched across her face.
"Oh, I wanna dance with somebody!" Kate sang, remembering back to the first time she heard this song at a school dance. "I wanna feel the heat with somebody, I wanna dance with somebody, with somebody who loves me!"
A chuckle from the doorway stopped Kate, and when she turned around, she blushed when she caught sight of Rick, AJ, and Clara all watching her.
"Hi." She said. "How long have you been there?"
"Not very long." AJ said.
"You sing pretty." Clara piped up.
Kate laughed softly and ducked her head. She heard footsteps coming toward her, and when she looked up, she saw Rick standing in front of her. He reached out and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
"Don't do that." He murmured. "Don't be embarrassed that our girls saw you having fun."
Kate smiled up at him and pressed her lips to his softly.
The song cut off abruptly, and immediately started over again. Kate pulled back and looked over to find AJ by the stereo.
"Dance with Daddy." She said with a smile. "He loves you."
Kate smiled, and before she could react, Rick pulled her into his arms and they began dancing. Rick wrapped an arm low around her back and dipped her so that her head was nearly touching the floor. When he pulled her back up, Kate threw her head back and laughed. Rick twirled her around, and she let go of him and kept twirling until she came to stop in front of her kids. She scooped Clara up into her arms and the 4 year old let out an excited giggle as Kate started twirling her around. Rick made his way to AJ and pulled her into a hug before he began dancing around with her.
Soon the loft was filled with the sounds of Whitney Houston and laughter spilling from the small family. Kate was signing softly to Clara as they danced, and Rick and AJ appeared to be trying various styles with differing levels of success.
When Kate could tell the song was ending, she danced her way over to Rick and AJ, and the four of them finished off the song dancing together.
When the song ended, Kate kissed Clara's cheek and leaned down slightly to kiss AJ's head.
"That was fun." AJ said.
"You're a good dancer too, Mumma." Clara said as she gave Kate as big of a hug as she could.
"Thank you, girls. Now it's your turn to clean up, because Mommy's not a maid."
"What's that?" Clara asked as Kate set her on her feet.
"Not me." Kate answered. "I want each of you to put your own toys away, please. Then Daddy will make lunch, and we might be able to dance again later."
Both girls excitedly ran off and began cleaning up their toys while Kate and Rick watched. Rick wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and hugged her tightly.
"I love you." He murmured as he kissed her head.
Kate sank back into him. "I love you too. There's no one else I'd rather dance with."
I kinds changed the prompt, but I used to love dancing around our living room with my mom, both to South Sixty Five and Spice Girls.
I'm having issues with FF (again.) For some reason, I'm not getting any emails regarding anything from this site. So, new stories, new chapters, follows, favs, reviews, nothing. Are you guys getting an email for this story and the others, if you've subscribed to them? Or are you just checking the archive. Also, any ideas if I can do anything to fix it, or do I have to wait for FF to do it? Any and all answers are appreciated!
