My very first piece in the Naruto fandom. I hope you like it and I don't own Naruto or any of its characters etc.
Summary: Shukaku was like another consciousness to Gaara until Naruto came along.
X-X-X
Shukaku always felt like another consciousness to Gaara. Another voice inside his head; instructing him on what to do and what not to do. Whether what the tailed beast told the teenager was the best way to keep peace, however, was clear - no. Shukaka was a voice of destruction and suffering inside Gaara's head which he constantly used to try to fight.
As a child, Gaara couldn't control the beast at all.
Gaara would constantly harm Suna shinobi, citizens and potential friends unintentionally and this made Gaara constantly get viewed as a "Monster" (The fact there was a tailed beast sealed inside him didn't help) It was because, as a child, you always listen to your head and go with your instincts. Gaara did the same. However, as he neared the age of six, Gaara began to realise this other voice in his head was separate from his own consciousness and he began to try to fight against it; scared of what it was making him do.
Then... his father, the Fourth Kazekage, did something which would make Gaara give up on this inner fight.
He ordered Yashamaru, his uncle, to try to kill him and to tell Gaara his mother didn't love him.
The moment when Gaara stopped fighting Shukaku's voice inside his head and let his anger take over was some of the most horrible, yet weirdly blissful moments of his entire life. Shukaku took massive enjoyment from destroying everything in sight and since he was apart of Gaara, the Jinchuuriki took enjoyment from it too. However, the kind side of Gaara - the kind, harmless side - felt like he was living a nightmare. As Shukaku rampaged the Sand Village, though, the harmless side began to fade away as Gaara was overcome by Shukaku's blood lust and the pain of feeling nobody loved him...
Gaara became cold and almost sadistic after the incident.
With the kanji for "love" freshly etched on to his forehead as a reminder of the incident, Gaara remembered the looks his brother, Kankuro, and sister, Temari, had made when he threatened to kill them as they tried to console their brother. Those horrified looks...
And from then on, Gaara gave in to Shukaku's bloodlust; letting it fuel him, and making him kill all those who hated on him.
He gave in to the tailed beast.
Then Naruto came along.
The other Jinchuuriki sympathised with Gaara and understood his pain. He risked his life for Gaara, despite them being enemies. They became friends; and Gaara fought the beast corrupting his mind once more. He became kind.
That was part of the reason Shukaku hated Kurama, Naruto's tailed beast, so much. Kurama's Jinchuuriki had made Shukaku lose control of his.
