Prologue
"Excuse me?"
The shinobi sitting at the desk looked up from his paper work to find a young girl standing in the doorway. He frowned at her, ten maybe eleven years of age, pink hair, green eyes, her stance said shinobi training but she wore no head band, her eyes wouldn't stay focused on any object for too long. A sign of unease or nervousness. Mostly likely an academy kid.
"How did you get in here?" he demanded.
"I, ah. I wish to speak to Ibiki-san."
Increased chance that the kid was an interloper. An academy student shouldn't know that name. Why though would an invader come looking for the head of interrogation? She was now giving off signs of increasing unease. Interesting.
"Why do you wish to speak to Morino-san?"
"There are crows and sparrows circling the Hokage Monument." she recited echoing her words with the signs for boar, dragon and rat.
He paused letting the tension build as he considered the coded message. Information: Immediate attention not required. The code changed every three months and was only used for surface communications. Every shinobi used as messengers between the different departments knew it but that still didn't explain how the kid learned it. Let her go through or not? He reached down and radioed Morino's office.
"Someone to see you sir. They say that there are crows and sparrows circling the Hokage Monument."
He'd been bored this shift and the girl was the most interesting thing to happen all afternoon.
"Let them in." came the buzzed response.
Besides even if she did prove to be trouble Morino could handle a kid easily.
Ibiki scowled at the girl before him. Daichi was on duty today, he was the only one who would have sent the girl through. The idiot needed to work on his sense of humour. The girl hadn't even spoken yet, waiting on him piratically stinking up the whole office with her nerves. He grunted at her. She forcibly straightened her shoulders and smoothed her hands down the side of her thighs.
"I would like to hand myself over to Integration, Sir."
Ibiki would have laughed at her if it wouldn't have ruined his carefully maintained image. He leaned forward scowl deepening.
"Why?" he grunted.
The girl titled her head to the side bird like and full of confidence. It left her neck vulnerable. The anxious air had cleared. She took a step forward.
"Because Ibiki-san. I come from the future."
