I don't own the characters, just the story
AN: "Lie To Me" is IMO one of the best shows I've seen and I'm really sorry it got cancelled. And, since don't like the way Callian ended on the show (no surprise there, uh?), I've decided to do something about it. It may be slightly OOC, but hope you won't hold it against me :))
A DREAM COME TRUE
"Morning, love." said Cal in answer to the familiar footsteps he heard behind him as he tossed another pancake in the air and then caught it back into the frying pan: "Emily isn't..." he stopped cold mid-sentence as he saw his wife's expression. There was shock, joy, and disbelief written all over her face. As he put the frying pan down and turned off the stove, he asked cautiously: "What's going on, love?"
Gillian's mind was reeling and she could not have controlled her emotions even if she wanted to. And she did not. "I'm pregnant." she said, her voice choking with emotion and watery eyes fixed on the man she loved. "Gil..." uttered Cal as her words registered with him, the same shock, disbelief and joy now evident on his face as well. "I'm pregnant, Cal." Gillian repeated as if afraid it was not real. "God, love… Are you sure, I mean…" As a smile mixed with tears of joy spread across her face, Gillian nodded: "Yes, honey. The Doctor just called. We are going to have a baby. He said we should keep in mind that there's still a long road ahead, but..." Her blue eyes were full of hope as she said it, and Cal wished with all of his being for this to succeed.
The fact of the matter was that Gillian had been told her chances of conceiving were very slim and those of carrying the pregnancy to full term even slimmer. They both knew that but that was something neither of them wanted to think about and deal with right now. Now was the time for happiness and hope. Speechless and overwhelmed - both were states that Cal Lightman experienced extremely rarely - he rushed to the love of his life and hugged her tightly. As Gillian felt Cal's arms wrap around her, the dam collapsed completely and as she buried her face into his chest, she broke into a happy cry.
She had been waiting for this, wanting this, for as long as she cared to remember, and despite of everything bad that had happened to her, despite losing Sofie, despite Alec, and despite the fact that the odds had been against Cal and her; she had never lost hope. And, now finally, her two biggest dreams - to be with Cal and to be a mother - had at least a chance of coming true. To be a biological mother, that is, because she was already a mother to Emily, and she honestly did not think she could love her more even if she had given birth to her. As her cry of joy continued, she wondered what she had done to get this lucky, and she hoped it would last for a long, long time. As he held close the woman he loved more than anything else in the world, save his daughter; Cal was happier than words could say. He honestly did not think it was possible to ever be this happy. He did not believe in miracles, but right now, he was willing to accept the possibility they existed. How else could this be explained? A child. A child with Gillian. It was his wildest dream coming true. There was nothing more he could ask for. He had it all. He closed his eyes and swallowed hard as a happy tear rolled down his cheek.
"I love you, Gil. I love you more than you'll ever know." he said softly as he inhaled a vanilla scent of her hair, kissing it in the process. "I love you too, Cal. Always." came her whispered reply.
