Blue

Red was Diane's favorite color. She felt powerful in red. It made her feel in control, ready for anything...and a little bit sexy. Red was her go to color for any occasion. Yet, as Diane tried on her favorite dress, something did not seem right. The color did not suit her, not for tonight. It was too bold. Besides, it is one thing to come across powerful in a courtroom, but not very appropriate for a romantic dinner. She wanted to leave a different impression. With that thought, Diane opened her closet and scoured through the many dresses and colors. Black, never. Purple made her look pale too and green brought out her eyes, but it still never looked right on her. Diane pulled out a yellow dress, but immediately put it away. She was too tall for yellow, it reminded her too much of big bird. White was completely out of the question and pink...she was not even going to go there. At this point Diane was ready to go in nothing but a trench coat. At least Kurt might enjoy that.

"I need wine," she mumbled to herself while falling onto her bed. Diane looked at the time and wondered about calling the whole thing off. There was still time to call him. Besides, there was no reason for him to show up. They had nothing in common, which was quiet obvious. Tonight would be an awkward, silent dinner as the two struggled to talk about more than politics. He will most likely leave bored or disappointed. Or the opposite, they'll argue the whole night and leave in anger. Either way, Diane could not see how this night would go well. Then again, she did love his sense of humor. The way he shrugs off everything like he is so care free. The man was full of mystery. That was one of the reasons she fawned over him. Kurt McVeigh was so cool. It made her laugh thinking like this, but it was the truth. She stood up again and looked through her closet, trying to find a dress that made the same statement, that she was carefree and relaxed. It may not have been completely true, but she did not care.

Just then she came across a dress she had only purchased a week ago, it was blue. Diane pulled it out and scanned over the details. If anything, it was different. She slipped out of the red in exchange for the blue on. As Diane adjusted the garment, she looked herself over in the mirror. It was perfect. The modest cut was just right and she was still able to show off her curves. Diane stepped into a pair of heels to complete the outfit. Then, she closed her eyes and let out a long, needed sigh.

One thing about Diane, the right outfit always gave her the right amount of confidence needed. Usually red did the trick, but with Kurt it was blue. Odd, and yet Diane knew the color would change everything about her. She opened her eyes, seeing herself in the mirror once more. Any woman knew that the right look can make one feel like she is ready to take on the world. With this outfit, Diane knew she could handle dinner tonight. Any regrets would go out the window, for now. She looked elegant, and yet relaxed and cool. She was dressed to have fun. Without wasting another minute, Diane pulled on her coat and left for the restaurant. And, once with Kurt at the restaurant, the look on his face as she took her coat off assured her that tonight would be very enjoyable.
