The golden rays of the early morning sun beamed through the open blinds protecting the windows. Nikita was slowly awakening from her dream state. She rolled over in the queen size bed and looked at the angry red letters on the alarm clock. It was half past six on a Friday morning and Nikita had a gigantic smile across her youthful face. Today was her first day at sans High School.
Nikita through back the covers and climbed out of bed in search of her yoga outfit. She pulled on the skin gripping black shorts and matching black sports bra, revealing more than her pink pyjama shorts and grey vest top. She opened the French door and stepped onto the small glass cased balcony and unravelled her deep purple yoga mat before taking her rightful spot in the centre of the rubbery mat. She inhaled a deep breath of the refreshingly cool morning air.
Michael had just turned onto the bottom of the road. His chest gleaming with sweat as he ran past the almost mansion sized houses on either side of him. Michael finally reached his house and entered through the front door. He grabbed his blue water bottle from the fridge and his small towel off of the chair in the dining room before exiting onto the back garden. Michael was on the porch at the top of the garden facing the house. He bent his arms above his head like he was being arrested and took in a giant gulp of the fresh oxygen.
Michael looked up at the sky as he stretched his arms and legs. His gaze caught on the girl sat on the balcony, of the house next door; she was balanced on her left leg with the right one stretched behind her. Her arms stretched in front of her and her head straight. Michael admired the way the girl's dark hair trailed half way down her back, the small smile pulling at her lips, her eyes closed as she basked in the suns warmth. Michael smiled at the sight and poured the remaining of his water on his hair; rinsing away the swat that had clustered in his short hair.
Michael couldn't help but steal one last glance at the mysterious beauty next door. Nikita slowly moved to a standing position and opened her eyes at the feel of someone looking at her. Her brown orbs met Michael's green ones. Nikita smiled in his direction. Michael froze not knowing what to do now that he had being caught. He shook the droplets off of his head before raising his hand at the balcony Nikita was on. But she had gone.
After taking a short shower and getting dressed in a pair of ripped denim shorts with a chunky burgundy belt with white stitching decorating it, she pulled on a clear blue tee that floated around her body, hiding her petite frame, as well as showing off her chest. The sleeves came down to her elbows and we rolled up a few times. Nikita attached a long crossed gold chain around her neck that reached just below her naval. She added another one which broke off into three separate chains one had a bird attached like it was soaring through the sky, the others were plain.
Nikita descended the stairs and met her mom who was sat at the kitchen island. She had her bright red heals on which stood out from her back knee length pencil skirt and her white dress shirt. She smiled when Nikita walked in dressed for school her make up light and her hair straight and flowing down her back like a river.
"Nikita, are you sure you're ready to start school? You can wait until Monday. That gives you today and the weekend to be fully prepared." Amanda said looking up at Nikita.
"I'm sure mom. I mean I've missed enough as it is and honestly I'm really excited. I haven't been to school in over a year. I've missed a lot." Nikita said grabbing a green apple from the centre of the island.
"You know that's not proper breakfast" Amanda scolded playfully.
"I know but I can eat it on the go. I think I met one of our new neighbours earlier by the way. He looked around my age" Nikita said taking a bite into her apple, the slightly sour juice dripping into her mouth.
"That's good maybe he goes to your school" Amanda said packing her brief case.
"Yeah maybe." Nikita replied pondering at the idea. "I'll see you when I'm home"
With that said Nikita picked up her black fashionable back pack decorated with dozens of silver skulls. She stepped out of the house and began her walk to college alone.
Michael was just leaving his house when he saw the note taped to the door.
'Michael don't forget you were volunteered to show the new student around"
Michael let out a heavy sigh and his father's note. He didn't want to draw attention to himself at school and showing the new kid around drew attention. Michael locked up and climbed in his car and drove to school.
Michael reached school and parked his car before entering the old building and heading to the reception. Once he got there the receptionist went and told the principle that Michael was there. He took a seat and began flicking through his messages.
Nikita entered the reception five minutes before her meeting was meant to start. She saw Michael sitting there in a leather jacket and sighed. So he was the resident bad boy. Michael looked up and saw Nikita looking at him. His eyes widened.
Nikita knocked on the door before entering the large spacious office.
"Nikita Mears?" The grey haired man asked.
"Yes sir." Nikita replied, noting the three piece dark grey suit he wore.
"My name is Percival Rose. I am the head teacher here. I was given your files and was contacted by your social worker. I understand you have had a traumatic start to life miss Mears. Here at Sans high we pride ourselves with our student's wellbeing. We have people who will happily take the time to talk to you, if that is something that interests you; the relevant information is at the reception and will be kept confidential."
Nikita nodded. "Thank you sir. I actually have a therapist already who I have been with fro a few months. I am a bit concerned about how far behind I am having not being to a school for over a year."
"I can understand that. Your teachers will go through the work ethic and the deadlines. You'll find yours have been extended by a few weeks. If there is anything else you would like to discuss my door is always open." Percy explained in a gravelly voice.
"Thank you sir" Nikita answered taking in all the information.
"Your time table and locker information is at the reception."
Percy led Nikita to the reception where he handed Nikita her time table and locker information. Michael stood when he saw the two exit the office.
"Ah Michael. Thank you for being so prompt. Miss Mears, this is Michael. He will be showing you around and helping you out."
"In all fairness I don't think I had a choice" Michael said looking at Percy.
"Yes well thank you." Percy said before leaving the two alone.
"Hi I'm Michael and you are?" Michael asked smiling at Nikita.
"Nikita…Mears. You were staring at me this morning" Nikita blurted.
"Ah you caught me. Sorry about that. Do you mind if we go to my locker first? Then yours."
"Not at all." Nikita said as she followed Michael down the hall.
The pair walked down the corridor taking the odd turn until Michael abruptly stopped. He opened the sapphire blue locker and put some books in the locker from his faux leather rucksack. He put a notebook in his bag which had several animated doodles on it. Michael slammed the locker shut the sound of metal slapping metal echoed in the hollow hall.
Michael looked at Nikita's locker number and walked three lockers down and stopped inputting the code on the lock and opened it. Nikita unhooked her arm from one of the straps in her bag and tried pulling a book out. Michael saw her struggling and took hold of the bag.
"So what do you study?" Nikita asked as she organised the books in her locker.
"Drama, Literature and Music" Michael said plainly.
Nikita stopped and looked at him. She scanned his face and saw a slight glint in his eyes when his reached hers.
"So you're into arts?"
"Yes, I guess." Michael answered suddenly tensing.
Nikita followed Michael's gaze and saw a big group of people swimming down the halls. Stopping and swarming like bees around Nikita and Michael. The first few guys had on leather jackets similar to Michael's. All they needed were giant T's on their backs and they could be the new T Birds from Grease. Nikita saw the flash of indecisiveness in his eyes. Nikita assumed the leaders of the group were Michael's friends and that he would probably be tormented for holding her bag like a gentleman. Without thinking she leaned up on her tip toes, her lips inches away from Michael's slightly parted ones. His breath warm against her face. She inched closer and their lips locked. Michael didn't react at first, but after a short moment his tongue danced across her lips asking for entry. She allowed it as Michael pulled her closer by the belt straps on her shorts. His arms locking around her waist, her bag gently hitting the backs of her naked legs.
"Thank you sweetie" Nikita said as they broke away from one and other.
The group was quiet and then Michael leaned down and kissed her neck slightly whispering thank you, just loud enough for her to hear.
People in the corridor started wolf whistling at the sight which was soon followed by the swooning of girls.
The pair stood like that, in the centre of the gathering. Michael handed Nikita her bag and took her hand leading her down the corridor. People made a path for the two to escape from.
