SHAKE IT OFF

Kate had had a very long day. A late body drop had put a serious dent in her date night plan with her husband; she only hoped his day had gone better than hers. Although, a day full of meetings at Black Pawn wasn't his idea of a good time either, but hopefully Castle would be home and they could enjoy what was left of the evening.

She paused when she slid her key in the door, ears perked at the faint sound of music drifting into the hallway. It almost sounded like – dance music? Confused, and maybe just a little annoyed, she stepped inside, depositing her shoes and coat at the door.

That wasn't just dance music, she thought as she recognized the tune. It was Taylor Swift. And it wasn't coming from the living room or even Alexis's room upstairs.

It was coming from their bedroom.

Kate groaned. She'd texted Castle throughout the day – he knew her day had sucked, even without the end-of-the-day body. He knew that after days like this she just wanted to relax. Have some wine, a hot bath. Definitely not come home to music blaring.

Although—

The closer she got, Kate's ears picked up the noise of the shower and Rick's voice over the music. He was singing along.

My ex-man brought his new girlfriend
She's like "oh my God," but I'm just gonna shake it
To the fella over there with the hella good hair
Won't you come on over, baby, we can shake, shake, shake

The big goofball was singing "Shake It Off" like his life depended on it.

She snuck into the bathroom and froze at the sight. Castle was in the shower, all right. He'd slicked his hair into a mohawk and was using the detachable showerhead as a microphone, Ferris Bueller-style, shaking his hips to the music. As hard as he tried, though, the notes were about two octaves too high for his normally nice baritone, and his voice was cracking horrendously.

Kate couldn't help but grin, letting out a chuckle when he noticed her and, without breaking a stride, struck a pose.

She'd married a dork. But dammit if she didn't love him even more.

Castle beckoned to her even after the next song started, switching from Taylor to Frank Sinatra. Kate quickly stripped and took his outstretched hand, squealing when he pulled her under the spray.

I've got you under my skin…

Later, lying in bed, sweaty and satisfied and full from takeout, when Kate pulled herself from the edge of sleep to give her husband a look.

"Did you plan that?" Her tone was playful with just a hint of accusation.

Castle rolled her onto her back and settled between the welcoming cradle of her thighs. "I might have encouraged Mother and Alexis to find other accommodations for the night. But I plead the Fifth on anything else."

Kate chuckled, pulling his head down for a long kiss. "For the record," she managed to get out as he trailed his lips down her neck, "'Shake It Off' is not a great song for you." She gasped when Rick nipped at her earlobe.

"You'll pay for that," he growled.

But before he could even blink Castle was on his back, Kate hovering over him. "We'll see about that," she teased her voice husky.

Rick grinned. Yeah, that shower routine was going to be a regular occurrence.

A/N 2: Please be kind, I whipped this up in like 20 minutes when I couldn't sleep and if I didn't post now I'd lose the nerve.
