"Hello, dearie." Ms. Cavaloy said softly from behind her desk.

"Good morning, Ms. Cavaloy." I said as I glanced at the entrance of the library, then back at the little old woman sitting behind the big fancy desk. "Is it alright if I use one of the computers?"

"Sure, sweetie. Take as long as you like." She flashed me her usual soft, simple smile, and handed me a computer pass. I made my way to the computers, but turned around before I exited the lobby.

"By the way, um, if anybody comes looking for me, act like you don't know me and pretend I'm not here, please."

"Of course, just as always." She said, going back to sorting through old books.

I smiled and dashed off towards the computers, sitting down at my usual computer; number five, and kicked the power button. It took quite a while for that old dinosaur to turn on, but eventually it did. I softly placed my fingers on the sticky home-keys and began typing away. Searching for many, many things. I couldn't even begin to list them.

I sighed and gave up, not coming up with any results. Just as I was finished on the computer, I heard a strange voice coming from the lobby. "How old is this lovely library?" the voice asked. It was obviously from a man, who sounded about middle-aged.

I heard Ms. Cavaloy reply in a heartbeat, her softly spoken words flowing out of the lobby like a song. "Just about one-hundred, and twenty-six years, sweetheart."

I walked to the doorway and peeked around the corner. There was a tall man standing there wearing a funny looking suit, brown boots, and a red bowtie. Who wears bowties anymore? He was fiddling with one of the little f figurines on Ms. Caveloy's desk. He looked so fascinated by it.

He peeked at the name plate on her desk before speaking. "So, do you have old books here, Ms. Cavaloy?" He asked, setting the figurine down and leaning on her desk, smiling at her. She seemed a bit... Nervous.

"I sure do." She let out a small, old-sounding giggle. "Just up to the top of the stairs over there, love." She pointed towards the stairs by the window. "Watch your step." She winked.

"Thanks!" He said, as he walked proudly towards the stairs. He glanced at me and winked, causing me to hide back into the computer room for a couple of seconds, letting him pass.

I snapped out of it and walked to Ms. Cavaloy's desk, handing her back the computer pass. "Here you go, thank you."

"You're welcome, Em." She leaned in closer to me. "Did you see that man over there? Quite a handsome man, eh?"

I let out a giggle. "I guess so, though I'm not really one for thinking older men are attractive, Ms. Cavaloy. I'm only sixteen."

"Right, right," She said, still smiling. "Well he seemed quite eager to get a peek at those old books of mine."

I was growing impatient. "Right right, well, I've gotta go now, bye!"

"Bye, dear!" She said, going back to her books.

"When she wasn't looking, I made my way towards the stairs by the window. I stepped onto the first step and it creaked, causing my heart to stop. I glanced up and saw how much older this staircase looked compared to the rest of the library, like it was built before the rest of the building. I softly placed my hand on the railing. It was cold and smooth, despite all the wear. I slowly stepped up the staircase, up and up, around and around, until I finally reached the top.
