Author's Note: Basically John explaining to the prees where Mary's gone after Lies. I noticed could of mistakes, but I fixed them! :D
John Terrafino changed the baby's diaper on automatic, barely aware of what he was doing. It had been a week. A week since he resigned from the council, since his workload doubled, since Mary… He blinked away the tears building in his eyes as a tiny hand tugged forcefully at his t-shirt. Putting down the now changed baby into his crib, John crouched down face to face with the toddler, Thomas, expectant green eyes gazing up at him.
"Where's Mother Mary?" His heart twisted in his chest. All he wanted to do was cry, scream, anything to get rid of the horrible ache that stung so bad with every reminder of his sister. But, with Tommy and all the other prees around him, all he could do was smile sadly.
"She's is heaven, Tommy."
"Isn't she in the ocean?"
Isabelle piped up, her attention torn from the ragged doll she was playing with nearby. Now most of the littles were looking at John and Tommy, curious about what happened to their substitute mother after the events at the cliff. Ignoring the indignant anger at Mary for leaving him, with no explanations or thoughts for the children, he let out a shaky breath and hoped his trembling voice wouldn't betray him.
"No, Mary's in heaven. Mother Mary- the Lord's Mother in heaven- saw what good care Mary was taking of all of you. So, She told Mary to come up to heaven to look after all the boys and girls of the world. But Mary couldn't bear to leave her children behind, which is why she tried to take all of you with her."
Almost thirty pairs of eyes stared up at him, in awe of his story. Tommy frowned in concentration while he tried to puzzle something out. A moment later, he grinned brightly.
"So, she's an angel in heaven?"
John ruffled the boy's shaggy red hair with a wry smile. Picking up a book from the faded shelf, he sat down on a stool and motioned for the children to gather round.
"That's exactly it. She's up in heaven now."
While he and the children were stuck in hell.
"That's exactly it."
