Cure of Fear

He ran down the deserted halls of the Southern Air Temple. Lightning lit the halls for a couple seconds then disappeared making them dark again. A loud clash of thunder followed soon after. He covered his ears. He had never liked thunderstorms, not since he ran away 100 years ago.

A few minutes ago he had been safe with his friends walking beside Katara, exploring the Temple. She had commented on how dark the sky was getting. Then it started to rain, and a streak of lighting and a large crackle of thunder had gotten the young airbender running down the halls. He had been running ever since.

Another crash of thunder echoed the old, empty halls. He could not escape the noise. He fell to his knees, shaking on the ground, covering his face in his hands as memories flooded his mind. He was so cold and scared and tears made their way to his eyes. He didn't feel the hand on his shoulder until the arm attached to the hand slowly felt its way across his shoulders. He was pulled into an embrace.

He didn't feel afraid or cold anymore. He looked up to see 14-year old Katara looking down at him; her eyes, pure pools of sapphire, watching him. The storm seemed far away now as he lay in her lap. The only thing he could hear was her soft whisper saying "It's okay Aang. I'm here now, you're safe."

He closed his eyes as she repeated these words into his ear. She was his cure to fear.
