"You're not suppose to be here."

"What? Of course I'm supposed to be here! I'm your teacher! Why can't I be here! Everyone else is here!"

The little girl just continued to look at him suspiciously.

"She is not impressed."

The man suddenly pointed at his companion. "And he's here!"

She smiled suddenly. "He's nice."

The man frowned and almost sulkingly straightened his bow tie.

"I am not 'nice'."

She nodded, and then sat down on the bench beside him.

He looked at her for a moment, and then leaned away from her.

"You are nice?" He turned his attention back to the girl. "He is nice?"

She was watching his hands move, and she giggled. "You're like my kitten."

The darker man groaned beside her, and she slid closer to him while he wasn't looking.

The other man's mouth had dropped open and he had finally stilled.

She twisted away from him, turning to the darker man. "What's your name? What are you doing here? I don't know you. You pet my kitten once-"

"That creature ought to be disposed of."

"You liked it!"

"Silence, Doctor."

He snapped his mouth shut.

"What is he doing here? Do you know why he's here? Why is he wearing a bowtie? Why aren't you wearing a bow tie? Why are you wearing all black? Mum says black is for devils and I'd be naughty to wear it. Are you a devil? Are you naughty? Why is he laughing?" She twisted back to stare at the 'teacher' on the opposite side of the table.

"He is contemplating changing faces."

"He can do that?"

"It is a punishment, child. It happens when he is too nosy and does not mind his own business."

"Oh. Mum says that's naughty too. So is lying."

The other man straightened indignantly. "I did not lie!" He corrected himself at his companion's dry smile. "This time!" He pulled out an old leather wallet, laying it out for her to look at.

She glanced down at it, and then giggled again, lifting it up to show the dark man. "Look! It's all...wavy!"

He took one look at the wallet, and truly smiled.

The other man took the wallet back, folding it away. "That would make you smile..."

"You have a bad habit of lying to children when you really don't want to."

"Fine." He turned his attention to the girl. "I'm a time-traveling alien and he is a psychopathic immortal."

She tilted her head to the side, and then turned to the dark man. "What does that mean?"

"Ask your teacher, child."

"She's not here." She frowned at the other man. "I don't like him."

"Smart child. He is from another planet, and I kill people to be safe."

"So you're a devil?"

He paused a moment. "Yes."

"Then it's good you wear black – so people know what you are." She slid off the bench and waved at the dark man. "Good bye!"

The two men watched her skip away, and then the immortal started smiling again.

"You are going home now."

"I do not recall wishing to be with you, so I am amenable to that proposition." His smile slowly faded. "There are no children at home either..."
