Hook looked around, frowning. He didn't like this. It seemed far too easy that Pan let them on the island without a care. If he knew the stories well enough, he should be right around the corner. Out of habit he just turned around, so as not to startle anyone. Of course, no one was there. He sighed and sat back down. He had volunteered to take first watch when they made camp. It was pretty clear that Emma wanted to keep going but Charming changed her mind. Still the lass looked restless. He couldn't help but feel bad for her, she had lost the man she loved and her son was somewhere on the damned island. She cried out in her sleep again and Hook felt the overwhelming urge to wake her; she would feel better awake, but he didn't move. Instead he leaned against the tree keeping an eye out for anything.
It was nearly daybreak when he heard rustling and started from his sleep. He jumped up, looking about. Everyone seemed in order and Hook glared at the sleeping Charming. He was supposed to take watch at midnight. Instead of kicking him awake, he went to check out the rustling. It was just a couple of squirrels. Hook sighed in annoyance and turned to walk away but then paused. He turned back and managed to kill the both of them. He lifted them by the tail and sniffed them warily; they could easily be filled with some poison sent by Pan. He threw them in the lake, and sure enough, the lake turned black with their blood. For a moment he contemplated washing his sword off, but the poison that was on his sword could be useful. He stared out on the lake and he heard shifting and someone walked up behind him.
"What the hell happened to that lake?" It was Emma. He continued to stare into the lake. Maybe it was a bad idea to throw poison into their nearest water source.
"Pan. He appears to be attempting to kill us. I knew it seemed too easy to have gotten in unnoticed." Emma was quiet.
She seemed to be deep in thought. She probably thinking of Henry, or Baelfire. Probably both. He yawned and stretched out his back before walking away to leave her with her thoughts. He walked past just as Charming and the Princess got up.
"Thank you very much for helping with the watch." He said sarcastically and Charming frowned as he tried to remember. Then he sighed and stood up looking at his wife.
They looked over at Emma and Snow sighed sadly. They seemed to be really concerned for her. Then again, they wouldn't dare say it out loud after the berating she gave them on the Jolly Rodger. Hook continued to walk through the camp, walking past the waking Evil Queen. He sat on a rock and stared into the forest. Her Royal Highness sat down next to him and turned towards him.
"Why are you here, Hook? You say you are all about survival, and yet you lead us, you follow us to this death trap. What's in it for you?" She said, rubbing her hands together.
Hook pondered her question for a while. Why did he come here? She was right; this place was a disaster waiting to fall on them all. Like a plague, a plague that they had walked into willingly, with him at the helm of the ship. He had to answer; he knew she was expecting an answer.
"I don't have anything better to do. Plus I have the transportation, the know-how, the cunning, shall I continue?" He said, standing back up.
One look around told him that the inhabitants of the camp were growing restless. Emma paced back and forth; Snow and Charming continuously checked the supplies and Her Royal Highness must have been creating fireballs, due to the rise in heat from behind him. Hook put away his supplies and by the time he was done, the others were ready to go as well. They headed into the jungle and looked around, keeping an eye out for any sights or sounds that may give a hint of the boy.
