Just a little something I felt like writing. The song is Without You by My Darkest Days. I've actually listened to this a lot while I've been writing Puzzle Pieces.

It had been over six months since Hiei had seen Manea. With each passing day, the dull pain in his chest sharpened until, at times, it felt like his heart was being carved out. Not even fighting, as much as he enjoyed it, could fill the place.

Try as he might, he couldn't get her off his mind. Every little thing reminded him of her. The rose Kurama used for his whip was almost the same colour of her hair. A giggle would, on occasion, sound just enough like hers to cause him to whip around, searching. He would see her out of the corners of his eyes, only to turn and discover he was still alone.

Then, as suddenly as he had disappeared, Manea appeared. Walking out of the forest behind Yusuke Urameshi and the masked fighter, she had never looked more beautiful. Even when Hiei attacked Yusuke, testing him, his eyes never left Manea. He knew she didn't realise he had noticed her yet, as she stood mostly hidden behind a tree.

And, just like that, he was whole again.

Hiei would never admit it, but it felt to him as if he died every day that she was away from him.
