What you don't want to see in your fic: character death
Night had yet to come as the sun slowly sunk into the ocean. The orange glow highlighted the dark clouds, which had gathered during the late afternoon. Teyla had wondered earlier if it would rain later. She was standing near the railing of the balcony that she and the others had claimed for the duration of the evening. Behind her a rather animated conversation had been going on for the better part of the last hour, but she had never felt the need to join the others.
"I swear it looks like a dog." Teyla turned to find a rather determined Dr. Kate Heightmeyer in the process of outlining what she swore was a dog of clouds.
"I'm sorry, Kate." Elizabeth tilted her head, following the psychologist's finger as it drew invisible lines in the air. "I really don't see..."
"It's a dog. Follow my finger!" Kate started pointing at what she perceived to be ears, eyes, a nose, a tail, legs and a body, but Elizabeth just shook her head not convinced it was a dog.
"Jennifer, what do you think it is?" Teyla could tell the young doctor wasn't sure what she was going to say or on whose side she was going to be on once she had said what she thought the clouds looked like.
"Well..." Jennifer started, glancing between the clouds and the duo staring back at her waiting for an opinion. "It could be a dog."
"See." Kate grinned, pleased someone agreed with her.
"Very diplomatic, Keller." Elizabeth grumbled a little.
"But I don't ... really … see it." She continued and immediately Kate's triumphant grin turned into a pout.
Teyla shook her head and sighed, turning back to the ocean below as the discussion behind her continued in full gear. She leaned against the railing, watching the waves down below crash against the city.
"Hey..." She turned as she felt Elizabeth's arms sneak around her waist. "You okay?"
Teyla nodded. "Yes." She smiled a little. "I'm fine." She didn't sound convincing and she knew Elizabeth would hear it too.
"What's on your mind?" Elizabeth brushed a stray strand of hair out of the younger woman's face, leaving her hand lingering just that little bit longer for Teyla to lean into the touch.
"My mother." Teyla whispered. "We used to watch the clouds until the moon would rise and we could no longer see them." Teyla sighed. "She would make up stories about the shapes and figures we saw." A single tear broke from her eyes and made its way down. Elizabeth quickly brushed it away with her thumb. "It was the last thing we did before she was taken."
"I'm sorry." The diplomat pulled the warrior into a hug. "So, what do you think?" She smiled as she let go. "Is it a dog?" Teyla briefly blinked, confused. "Jennifer seemed to have finally agreed with Kate though. I can't hear them anymore."
Teyla smiled, her confusion disappearing. "That would be because Jennifer has found another way to silence Kate."
"What?" Elizabeth turned around, as Teyla winked. "Oh, it seems they have left for cloud number 9." She grinned as they watched Jennifer and Kate kissing each other as if they were the only ones on the balcony. "About time those two got it on."
"Cloud number 9?" Teyla curiously tilted her head. "Does it look like a dog?"
Elizabeth blinked and then she started laughing, only slightly confusing Teyla before she kissed her.
