"Well! That was unexpected and interesting," Helen muttered as she lay on top of the Pliocene cliff. When the raptor appeared from behind the ridge and bull rushed her, knocking both of them off the cliff in the process, Helen was barely able to grab the mountainside as it rushed past her and hold on. The fact that she jabbed her knife into a crack and held on to the knife too had also helped, even though right now her arms hurt a lot – she was going to lay low for a while too.
The raptor, on the other hand, had not been so lucky and had fallen off the cliff on an even more unlucky Danny Quinn, who had broken the raptor's fall and its hunger, as the dinosaur had all but finished eating the ex-policeman turned time traveller.
Helen had looked at the dinosaur's rather messy and noisy eating with only a passing interest, unlike a local Dinofelis who was busy stalking the reptilian newcomer with a clear intent to challenge the dinosaur for the meeting. There was going to be a face off and Helen was going to watch it... long enough to recover and go back to her hide out to make her next plan.
"Suicide by hero – fail, check," she muttered calmly, "suicide by creature – fail, check...and I'm getting bored with the whole suicide thing anyways."
From below came a roar, as the dinosaur and the sabre-toothed leopard began to fight for dominance, but Helen was done with them. Slowly, she got back on her feet. Her latest time anomaly manifestation device was missing, but that was fine – she had one hidden in a local cache as well.
With nary a glance, Helen turned around and walked away from the edge of the cliff towards a new future.
