WHAT RITA SAW
AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER
Okay, semi inspired by the song "Concrete Angel" by Martina McBride and the ZyuRanger storyline of Bandora losing her son to Dinosaurs. Other than that, I'm not sure how this came to be and will remain a one-shot. Takes place shortly before "The Mutiny". Though they only showed Jason's parents once, it hinted at a good relationship between them, so this is obviously AU. Power Rangers belongs to Haim Saban, Fox Kids, and Disney.
Rita was spying on Earth again. She would do that from time to time without launching an attack. It helped her to better strategize against the Rangers. Her Repulsa-scope zeroed in on Jason Scott, the Red Ranger and leader of the Power Rangers. Ah, yes. Going straight home like a good little boy, she thought to herself derisively. However, she soon noticed a look of apprehension on his face and zoomed in. His eyes were wide, and even from the moon, she could tell that his hands were shaking. Now, what's brought this on? she wondered. This was the same boy-a mighty warrior to be sure, but still a just a boy-who continuously led his friends into battle with no fear. He often faced Goldar, Scorpina, and countless monsters without breaking a sweat. So what was causing this reaction in him? She watched as he approached his house, opened the door, and stepped inside, obviously trying to be as quiet as possible. As he stepped into the living room, someone else came into view and the Red Ranger froze. Rita's brows furrowed as a man-presumably his father-said something to him. Then, something was thrown and the boy quickly deflected it. The man's eyes darkened and striding over to him quickly, he shoved the boy, knocking him against the wall. The Red Ranger said something, resulting in a punch that felled him. Then, the kicking started. She watched as the Red Ranger made a half-hearted gesture in stopping him, but mainly just stayed where he was. Curious as to why he was making no move to defend himself, she zoomed in even more until she was allowed hearing distance.
"No. No, please. Dad, stop. Please. I'm sorry. Please. Don't hurt me again. Please." Shocked and sickened at the utter despair in the boy's begging tone, she pulled back. Her eyes widened. What the-how is he able to hide that? she wondered. Sure the Power would give them faster healing abilities, but it didn't completely keep away bruises. Ignoring the concerned questions of her minions, the witch hurried to her private chambers where she finally allowed herself to sink onto the floor of the palace. I can't believe that the Red Ranger would stand for that, she thought to herself. Something within her stirred. It was an emotion that she hadn't felt for centuries. An emotion that she normally wouldn't allow to linger, but she would just this once. It was…compassion.
