Bella
The day was warm and she could feel it. The sunlight shone brightly through her window and she was surprised by the change in weather. Sunlight was not very common in the dreary town of Forks and she knew it. Bella Swan was new to Forks, having only moved to the town a few days ago to live with her father Charlie; she had lived in this house before but was taken away by her mother when she was a baby. After her mother's marriage to minor league baseball player Phil, Bella had decided to give her mother some space to be with her new husband and made arrangements to move back in with her father.
Bella glanced around the room, watching the sunlight reflect playfully on the photos of her family, which were hanging in various spots on the walls of her new room. She glanced over at the time, remembering that she was supposed to wake up at 7am to get ready for school.
Today was going to be her first day at Forks High School. It was the only high school in the area, the next nearest high schools were in La Push and Seattle. Both of those were too far away for her to drive everyday, and since her ancient truck couldn't go over 50kp/h it was doubtful that she would make it to school on time in either of those places. The time on the clock read 7.15am, she was late for her first day of school.
Bella hated the first day at a new school, just on principle. She had never really been popular at her old school and had preferred to stick to herself most of the time. At her old school she had focused mostly on her studies as well as reading any new books that her local book store had put out. Her newest favourite were the Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody, she loved to lose herself in the books that she would read and loved to follow their struggles through to the last page of the book.
After a hurried shower she threw on a pair of blue jeans and a white tank top, to suit the weather of the day. Bella threw all of her books into her bag and ran downstairs, her father had left for work 15 minutes ago, so after deciding to skip breakfast she jumped into her red Chevy truck and drove the few miles to Forks High School which was not hard to find in such a small town.
After parking in one of the various spots in the student parking lot she headed towards the front office, making sure to get a good look at where she had parked her truck, she didn't want to forget where she parked on her first day of school. At her old high school it would not have been hard to lose such an old vehicle since most of the students there drove shiny new cars that were straight from magazines. But here in Forks not many people were able to afford cars that were so expensive and so Bella had to make sure she could tell the difference between her truck and all the other trucks parked in the student parking lot.
Red truck, green bush, red truck, green bush. She thought to herself over and over again on her way into the office. She entered through the doors of the slightly too warm, school office and made her way over to the receptionist. The woman looked like she was in her 40s-50s with her brown pulled back into a pony tail. As far as Bella could tell this woman seemed to be a big fan of pink, all of her belongings on the desk were pink including her note pad and pen.
She was sitting on a pink chair reading a romance book that Bella recognised as one of the books her mother used to read before she met Phil. Bella giggled to herself as she walked up to the desk. The woman's name was Penelope Cope and judging by her tone, she knew exactly who Bella was as soon as she walked through the front door of the office.
"Welcome Bella," she said as Bella stood in front of her. "Nice day isn't it?"
"Yes" Bella replied, not really wanting to get stuck in a conversation with this woman on her first day at this new school, she was already late for class as it was.
"Well here is you lesson schedule, your map, school diary and id card - so you can borrow books from our library." Ms Cope said as she handed Bella what she would need to begin her school career at Forks High School. "Your first class is English with Mr Mannis; it is straight through that door and it the third classroom to your left." She said as she pointed in the direction in which Bella had just come.
"Thank you" replied Bella before she left the office, through the door she first came through.
Bella walked down the hallway to classroom 3, just like Ms Cope had advised. She stood in front of the door for a few minutes, deciding whether or not to enter the door. Even though English was Bella's favourite subject, she couldn't get rid of the sneaking feeling that she didn't want to go through the door, into the class.
Gathering her wits she pushed the heavy door open to reveal a classroom full of students that had a large man standing before them talking about reviews. He was a large man in size and was wearing a shirt that was clearly too small for him that was powder blue in colour. As Bella walked through the door he introduced himself as Mr Mannis, which Bella was already aware of. He pointed her in the direction of the only available seat in the room, which was beside a small 'pixie' looking girl whose short black hair was spiked in all different directions.
As Bella sat down beside her, the girl introduced herself as Alice. Her high pitched voice matched her attitude as she was bouncing in her chair making Bella feel right at home beside this energy ball.
The class dragged on, longer than Bella would have liked, and considering the boring topic that the teacher was talking about Bella silently wondered to herself how any of her fellow class mates were able to stay awake. During different intervals during the lesson Bella had conversations with Alice. Alice told her about her friends Emmet and Rosalie who were one of the hottest couples in the school. She described in detail about her boyfriend Jasper and how long they had been dating for. She also told Bella about her brother Edward, who was apparently one of the hottest guys in school, but was known as a bit of a loner, he would prefer to read books than date anyone. Alice didn't seem to mind this fact, she hated pretty boys who slept around, but it was obvious by her tone that she was worried about her brother and the fact that he never seemed to be interested in girls.
Bella really liked talking to Alice, she was peppy but not in a cheerleader sort of way. She discovered that they had the next two classes together and had fun chatting through them with Alice until the bell rang for lunch. Alice led her through the corridors and into the lunch hall.
I was a large room that had a cafeteria in the far left hand corner, the windows opened up to revel the sports fields and in from of them (the windows) there were many rows of large tables with people sitting at them. Alice waved to someone over on one of the tables and then after getting her food, she dragged Bella over to one of the tables nearest to the windows where there was already 4 people sitting down.
One of them was very beautiful and could easily have been a model from one of the latest magazines, she had long blonde hair and was in deep conversation with a boy who looked like a heavy weight boxer with all the muscles that he had. He had short brown hair and was wearing a tight fitting shirt to show off his large muscles, which he flexed every few minutes; Alice introduced them as Rosalie and Emmet. There were two other boys sitting at the table one was slightly less bulky than Emmet and had short red/brown hair - Bella couldn't decide the exact colour - his skin was pale like Alice's and although she called out his name he didn't look up from his book.
"Edward!" she almost yelled at him, for the third time. This made him sigh and with reluctance he looked up from his book, to look directly at Bella. Her breath caught in her throat, no one had ever looked at her like this before. It was like he was staring into her soul and all she could do was stare back, almost like she was hypnotised by his gaze. Eventually Alice got her attention back by standing directing in front of her, blocking Bella's view of this new boy Edward. She introduced Bella to her boyfriend of 2 years Jasper, who was sitting on the far corner of the table picking at the lasagne that was right in front of him. He seemed to look up instantly as Alice said his name, and a large smile came to his lips when he looked at her, she simply ruffled his wavy blonde hair and went around the table to sit beside him.
As Alice moved around the table she unblocked Bella's view of Edward, his eyes had once again returned to the pages of his book and his attention was no longer focused on Bella which made her feel more comfortable. She hated people staring at her, and since she was the new girl in town everybody in the room seemed to be looking in her direction. She was uncomfortable as it was, and didn't really need another person at this school to stare at her, and make her feel more uncomfortable.
In one of her earlier lessons Alice had mentioned to Bella that she would really get along with her brother Edward because they both had a love of books. But now that Bella was standing here in front of him all she could think was how rude he was being by first ignoring her and then staring. Although she probably did have a lot in common with this boy she was not interested in dating anytime soon and especially didn't want to date someone who was probably not interested in her as it was.
Yep she thought to herself. This was going to be a shit year!
