Summary: Walking around the lunar subterrane with his brother, Cecil discovers a box.
A/N: You must admit, these cute little things could probably make the warrior of Light melt into a puddle of happy goo.
"Brother, look!"
Golbez only sighed, looking down at where his younger brother grasped his hand.
"... Brother?" Golbez looked up to the shining purple eyes, and the face in which the beautiful orbs resided instantly lit up with a smile. "You weren't listening, were you."
"Sorry, sorry." He really shouldn't have agreed to follow the paladin on his daily stroll around the lunar subterrane. "What was it?"
Cecil pointed to a small carbon box further ahead of them, and from where Golbez stood he could see something fluffy moving about, weak meows echoed among the rocks and stabbed at his heart.
"Kittens" he stated, his little brother looked up with a face of pure horror.
"You mean someone just up and left them here?!"
Golbez sighed "Obviously."
Cecil let go of his brother's hand and rushed off to the box, he picked it up carefully, as though it was his firstborn, and turned back to the other.
He was biting his lower lip, his eyes overflowed with tears and his whole form was already trembling with sobs.
From within the carbon box, three furry, big eyed kittens looked up at their new-found "mother" while crying for attention.
"Who would-" Cecil drew a shaky breath and brilliant tears rolled down his cheeks "who could do this? They're so small, they could have died and, and..."
He broke off and cradled the box closer to his chest.
"Brother, can we keep them?"
"GOLBEZ."
The thaumaturge startled and almost choked on his cereals when Garland more or less broke into his room, Golbez coughed and looked up at the other with an asking gaze.
"You have put an obstacle in the corridor."
"What?" he realized his white hair was falling into the milk and sat up straight.
"Your brother..." Garland motioned towards the door "is sleeping on the floor, along with some kittens..." the nemesis looked down and seemed uneasy. "Could you please take them all into your room? I cannot stand watching my Light cuddle those cute fur balls."
Golbez mentally pointed and laughed. "So your enemy stayed the night."
"Not any of your business." Garland muttered. "Just please remove them."
It took less than a day for each kitten to achieve popularity on both sides. Soon, the Cosmos and Chaos warriors could even sit in the same room and pet them, play with them and feed them. However, one day Cecil looked up from where he was sitting by the newly bought kitten toys.
"Brother, they don't have any names."
The whole room went quiet, and the kittens looked to their "mom" with big, innocent blue eyes.
"We think the gray one should be named sprinkles." The cloud of Darkness piped up.
"Sprinkles?" the onion knight made a face. "Have you ever heard of innuendoes?"
"Sparkles." Light said, only to be tackled by Garland.
"Muffin!" Terra said, raising her hand as though she was in class, and of course the Onion chimed in. In one of the corners, Sephiroth cuddled the gray kittens white sister; he smiled and held her up, looking into the blue depths of her eyes. "Mother" he murmured, Cloud paled where he sat a few meters away.
Cecil looked down to the tiger-striped kitten which played with his white hair. He smiled and when the others looked to him to hear his choice of name he blurted out: "Kain."
The warrior of Light automatically burst out laughing for no apparent reason, Garland tried to hush him down and Golbez's eyes darkened when they met the gaze of his little brother.
"That cat is not allowed to sleep in your bed anymore."
