Proof
"Tohru-san, is this the last of your luggage?"
"Yes," she eventually replied in a broken whisper. She sounded so lonely.
Her father died before she could make many memories with him, her mother's suffering brought the young child her own. It was enough sadness for a lifetime, but fate still had to give her more that day when a driver lost control of his car.
This girl should not have had to bear it all alone. This burden should not have fallen on the shoulders of such a young and naïve child, but she stood in the empty apartment staring at the window all the same. Did she see her mother smiling back at her? Did she see what I saw?
When those you love and cherish die, you swear to yourself you will never forget. Even if the world continues on the same and everyone else forgets, you won't because then that person might as well have not existed. I know, and I understand. My son and daughter-in-law were her parents after all.
"Let's go, Kyouko-san," I said as I softly placed my hand on my granddaughter's shoulder. Maybe we could remember together. So there would always be proof that the spunky woman had always existed.
Wahhh...it's been so long since I've posted anything on here. It's partially how busy my school load has been, but partially because I've had very little inspiration and also partially because all the stories I'm working on are super long. It was nice to get to right just a short character study like this, especially because I've always thought Tohru's grandfather was one of the most mysterious of the characters. Well, hope you enjoyed this! And whether you did, or not, please review my story. It was just a quicky, so I'm not expecting rave reviews, but let me know how my writing is holding up, considering how long it's been since I've posted. I'd also like to know what you think because this is the first time I've written first person perspective. Thanks for reading!
