On the edge of sleep, I felt the sun hit my eyes before they opened. Rolling over, I slammed into what felt like a solid block of ice. Though not pleasant to most, this feeling was a delightfully familiar one.
"Good morning love."
Edward set aside his book and kissed my forehead.
"What do you want to do today?"
"Actually....I had something a little different than usual in mind," I replied.
Edward was instantly on his guard. This kind of talk usually preceded the, shall we say, testing of boundaries.
"No, nothing like that!" I hurriedly interrupted him mid-thought. "Actually I was thinking about something a little more human".
I had had this planned for awhile. Edward lived such a life of luxury and though he was never a snob about it, I wanted him to experience what Alice would call 'roughing it.'
I reached under the bed and promptly hit the floor.
"Ow."
Edward was already on his feet. "Bella, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, I'm looking for something."
I dove under the bed and rummaged around in a shoebox. "Aha!"
"What's that, love?"
"It's a list. I made it weeks ago. There are a few things I want to do before I say goodbye to humanity. No peeking, it's a surprise. This is going to be as much fun for you as it is for me."
Edward sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger.
"I'll try to be open-minded about this Bella, but I am acutely aware of your penchant for danger."
Excellent.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
"If you say so. To the Volvo!"
Humouring me, he followed me downstairs and out to the car. Like the gentleman he unfailingly was, he opened my door before climbing into the drivers' side.
"Ready?" I was bursting with excitement now. He chuckled lightly, he seldom saw me this excited by anything.
He took a deep breath.
"Ready," he replied warily.
"First stop, paintball!"
Ooooo! What will hopelessly clumsy Bella do with a paintball gun? What else is planned for Edward. I know it's short, but further chapters will be longer, i promise. Read and review so I can suss out whether to continue.
