Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, but my birthday is coming up...(also, the linebreak appears to have malfunctioned above.)

Hufflepuff

Red and gold stand for the glory found in sacrificed blood - the honour of the courageous.

Dark green mirrors the scales that lie scattered over the cold stone floors deep underground, whispering of an untainted legacy and regal pride.

Blue and bronze reflect the calm and collected minds of those clad in the rays of genius. Like tiny stars each member sparkles with intelligence, shinning copper against the sky.

And yet the fourth banner that sways in the slight summer breeze is surprisingly the most ambiguous of them all, although most everyone supposes to comprehend the choice of colour.

Hard-working, faithful, compassionate and loyal: the key traits of those that reside in Hufflepuff are reflected in the splash of colour that announces them. Sunshine yellow drips off of their frames so that they glow gently - not vying for competition like the stars of Ravenclaw or drenched in prestige and glory like Gryffindor nor even seated disdainfully upon their pedestals high above like the snake house – they are happy to be the soft candlelight in the background. Yet their potential blaze is dampened by the shades of dark they are cloaked in.

They wear black (not regally or honourably or to announce intelligence) but as a reminder.

The most animated house in Hogwarts is also the saddest among the student body for they are clad in the colour of death.

It is worn as a remembrance for all those that have fallen and for all those yet to sink into the void.

It is a mirror image – contrasting yet never clashing with the buttercup hue displayed over their robes. It serves as a reminder of the other side.

It is a warning to the kind-hearted that there is unimaginable evil within this world that revels in causing pain to all those that it touches. The black fades the vibrancy of yellow and was chosen precisely for this quality.

It is the forgiving, the fiercely loyal, the cheerful and the easy-going that are most in need of cautioning against all that is sinful for they, in all their vibrancy and sunshine and candlelight, are the most vulnerable.

So they dress in morning clothes and are reminded.
