Summary: You hand halts at the boy's apple cheek, the tip of your brush barely brushing his skin.

Disclaimer: Really? Really. I mean, dude. Come ON.

A/N: these idiots really are gonna end up like MULDER AND SCULLY!!!! Enjoy.

"Why doesn't my dad have a girlfriend?"

Whoa, there. Your hand halts with at the boy's apple cheek, the tip of your brush barely touching his skin. You search his eyes for any childish humour, but they are completely clear and serious. Is his father's problem so bad that even his son notices?

You notice that he is waiting for an answer, oblivious to your hesitation. You quickly answer his question jokingly, censoring your true thoughts as much as you can without openly lying.

"He needs a girlfriend...to sex up."

If only it were that simple, you think wryly as you mess around with the inquisitive mini-booth. If only he could just ask Bren to give him a release to his biological urges. Then maybe they would both get something more out of it, something that would propell them to the next level that they are supposed to be at. But that isn't Booth. He's the "making love with a lover" kind of person. And he's been spending half his time convincing Bren that it's the best way to have sex. If he just slept with her, it would somehow destroy her views of him. Whether she said it or not, she would feel betrayed. It would have had to mean something, if they ever took that step.

"Why don't you be his girlfriend?"

If Bren and Hodgins weren't in the picture, Booth would be all yours, and you'd never let him go. Sadly, that's based purely on looks. The personality of Booth was far too annoying to deal with as well, and if Bren can handle it, then she deserves to own it. Plus, you had already learned from being with Roxie; even with someone great, the bitter aftertaste of jack's gentle loving heart would always sour the mood.

You wish you could bestow upon your clueless friend the outgoing part of you that would say to Booth, right in his smug face, "I love you." And it hurts you because she really, really does live him, but the logically DUMB part of her will not allow her to reach out. At least you know the reasons aren't all that stupid; if she was worried about him rejecting her and their relationship being ruined, then you'd have to bop her on the head.

"....so I can have a pool. Why else would I care?"

It's what Booth tells you a week or so later in passing conversation; apparently, his son only thought of his dad for his own selfish needs. You smile and laugh and coo over it, but when Booth walks away, you can't help but sigh. Up until now, you haven't noticed how mush you were depending on that little boy to push his stubborn father in the right direction. You put so much stock into nagging the FBI agent about it, laughing with your coworkers about it, and secretly crossing your fingers behind your back about it,that when the end came by, you were left more disappointed than before. Looks like you may have to lock them in a closet together after all; desperate times has always called for desperate measures. Never mind that yourfriend will kill you in the end.

"Why doesn't Dad have a girlfriend?"

Because Daddy only wants what he thinks he can't have.

A/N: I loved the addition of Parker into this episode, but I was SO annoyed when it turned out that parker only wanted a pool. Still, I thought it was interesting how even Booth's son noticed how SINGLE his dad was. Hope you liked it!!!
