One rainy afternoon, Jace was alone sitting in his bedroom shifting through his father's letters. Overall, the letters contained nothing that of importance until he found a letter that was dated a week before his birth. It was addressed to Amatis, as most of the letters were, but this one was different because it talked about him directly,
My dearest friend,
As you are aware, Celine is due to have the baby next month, but we just can't agree on a baby's name. We are positive that it is going to be a boy and we have managed to narrow it down to four names. We really like the idea of naming him traditional boy name. So, here they are:
Ashley
Leslie
Shannon
And of course, the family name, William…
Jace stopped reading the letter right there, too horrified at the thought he could've been given a girl's name (who the heck names a boy Ashley?). However, curiosity overcame his shock and he began looking for Amatis's response.
Stephen—
Personally, out of all those names I like Leslie the best. Ashley and Shannon are so common these days, and naming the boy William is not a good idea because we all know how he turned out. I wish you both the best of luck with your new baby.
~Amatis
Jace was shocked, how could such a sensible woman like Amatis agree to name a boy Leslie! Jace still couldn't believe his eyes, so he kept going over the letters to see if missed anything or read it wrong, and that is how Clary found him.
"Jace, what's wrong?"
Jace looked up at Clary, "It's official, my birth parents and Amatis didn't love me. If you don't believe, read these." And he gave Clary the letters. Clary read the letters and immediately started laughing.
"Stop laughing! This is serious; I could've been given a girl's name. Do you know what this will do to my manly image if the content of these letters gets out? I'll be ruined. Ruined I say!"
Clary looks at Jace with a completely straight face, "Whatever you say, Leslie."
