Disclaimer:  Not mine.  Also, the song that the first line comes from is not mine.  It is "Aside", by The Weakerthans.  You should go download it, and everything else by them.  ::nods::  So, if you're a Weakerthan or a randomly concerned person considering legal action, please have mercy.

Author's note:  I'll let you decide which slashdom this goes with.  I wrote it specifically for one pairing, but whatever.  It's totally ambiguous.

"the unbelievable escape of falling (in love)"

measure me in metered lines
in the precise beats you've composed for me
when i stumble over the eighths and sixteenths
in the architecture of this beautiful mess
i'll shake the sharps and flats from my skin
become something natural
a song to sing to yourself
when the scales and arpeggios of daily life
wear you thin
i'll be the solo to be sung above it all
or the rhythm city slackers walk to
a rich harmony
a baritone tone below it all
until a double bar line
dark black in finality
brings the piece to silence
silence
the conductor takes a bow and the lights are going down
the velvet curtain's been drawn to
and long ago the audience slipped into the night
but up on stage
you are the song i'll have stuck inside my head.
