Chapter One: Such a Loss
Paul, a purple-haired 13 year-old trainer, was in the Sinnoh League, one of his crowning achievements. It was the semi-final round and all looked well. His opponent was someone who he could not stand at all, a 12-year old boy named Ash Ketchum. Both were down to their last pokemon, Paul's Electabuzz and Ash's Pikachu. The two electric types were face to face. Paul commanded, "Use Thunderpunch, Electabuzz!"
"Eleca!" yelled the bipedal electric pokemon as its fist glowed yellow. It tried to strike the mouse pokemon. However, the Pikachu hopped up and over the Electabuzz causing it to lose balance and fall.
Ash commanded, "Now, Pikachu, use Iron Tail!" The Pikachu's tail glowed silver. It ran to the fallen Electabuzz and struck it straight on the forehead. The hard blow caused the Elecabuzz to yell in pain. Then, its head lay down, with swirly eyes.
The judge at the right of the arena looked at the down at the fallen electric-type pokemon. It had indeed fainted. He raised his green flag claiming, "Electabuzz is unable to battle, the winner is Pikachu, and the victory goes to Ash from Pallet Town!"
"Yeah! Alright!" exclaimed Ash as he jumped up in the air. And why wouldn't he celebrate? That meant that he would go onward to the finals, something that he had not been able to do. Paul grunted at his loss, this..this loser beat him. He couldn't stand it one bit. Someone as pathetic as Ash actually beat him. He left the stage as Ash and his Pikachu celebrated on their latest success. Paul walked to the front to see that Ash's two traveling friends were in the lobby waiting for Ash to return.
Dawn, the blue-haired coordinator, said, "Yeah, no need to worry for Ash."
Brock, a breeder of sorts, replied, "Yeah, Ash has gotten a lot better recently."
Paul just scoffed at these remarks. How dare they support someone so...so...so pathetic. It was infurating. Suddenly, he saw her of all people, the red-haired girl who defended that loser when they first met. She was celebrating with those losers. He could not stand it. The girl went up to Paul and said, "Serves you right for the way you treat your pokemon." These words burned worse than that taco with extra-hot hot sauce that Paul had last night.
Paul just replied, "You know winning isn't everything." He was still being a sore loser but his pride would not let him let those other people know about that. His eyebrows twitched as he continued downward.
"Did I say something?" asked the red-haired girl, trying to egg Paul on.
"Aw, don't worry about him, Zoey" replied Dawn. "He's always in a bad mood." Both females laughed for a bit.
Paul muttered, "Shut up." The girls continued to laugh even louder. "SHUT UP!" he yelled. This time everybody in the lobby, including Dawn and Zoey kept quiet and just stared at Paul. He turned around toward the door in frustration and left. As soon as his feet hit outside, he ran off, a few tears falling down his face. Why? Why did this loser win?
Still inside the lobby, Zoey felt a bit guilty for this. She uttered, "Maybe I should apologize..."
Brock, being the older and more responsible person said, "I think we should give him some time alone first." He looked out toward where Paul had ran; he knew that time would heal him. Plus the fact that Ash had beaten Paul was reason enough to celebrate at least for now.
Ash entered into the lobby and exclaimed, "I won!" He then noticed how everyone was looking outside the window and asked, "Did I miss something?"
Short chapter I know, but I just wanted to introduce the theme. I'll make longer chapters, I promise.
