Disclaimer: Harry Potter does not belong to me

Three Months. That was the last time Hermione had seen them. Three months since she had any kind of contact with them, but she was not too surprised.

Three months ago the Golden Trio had finally defeated the most evil wizard of all, Voldemort. Right after the final battle at Hogwarts Hermione had told Harry, Ron, and the rest of the Weasleys that she was going to Australia to search for her parents and restore their memories. However, that was no the case. She had no intentions of looking for her parents or restoring their memories. Hermione had decide to leave things they way they were.

In those three months, neither Harry nor Ron bothered to contact her. The fact that she had not heard anything from her friends did not faze her. She knew it was only a matter of time before her best friends forgot about her and everything she had ever done for them. Deep down she knew this would happen, but that did not mean it made it easier or painless for her. Harry and Ron had only used her for her brains. At school, they used her for her homework and when they went on the horcrux hunt, they only took her along for her research abilities. Now that they had finished school and Voldemort was dead they no longer had any use for her.

Even thought they had used her the entire time. Hermione still loved them dearly. That is why she purposely distanced herself from them. She did not want any of their pity or fake sympathy.

FLASHBACK

Hermione sat alone in Dr. Johnson's office waiting for him to return. She could not help but wonder what was taking him so long. When he finally walked back into the room, he had a somber expression on his face.

"Miss Granger I'm sorry to say that the results to your analysis are not as optimistic as we had hoped for."

Hermione started to panic. She would finally know the cause of her daily headaches and fainting spells. She gripped onto her seat while she nervously waited to hear the results.

"What is it? What's wrong with me?'

"Miss Granger you have a tumor" he said while looking down at his desk

"A tumor?" She choked out. She could not believe what she was hearing, it couldn't be true.

"Yes. It is located on the left side of your brain."

"Is there anything we could do?"

"Well we could give you pain medication and you could undergo treatment, but we cannot remove it surgically because of its position. I'm truly sorry"

"How much longer do I have?"

"About a year, give or take a few months. The treatment process would only help alleviate some of the pain; it will not extend your life. Would you like to undergo the treatment process?"

"No thank you. It would only get my hope up."

"Once again, I'm truly sorry Hermione. If you change your mind just give me a call and I'll set things up."

With that, she got up and walked out of his office tears running down her face.

END FLASHBACK

That day Hermione decide she would modify her parents' memories. She did not want them to suffer because of her death. She also decided that she would help Harry defeat Voldemort even if it cost her, her life.

Hermione never told anyone about her illness. She kept it a secret from everyone, especially from Harry and Ron.

As Hermione lie alone in her darkened room, she could feel her life draining. She had always dreamt that the day she died she would be surrounded by love and happiness. She closed her eyes waiting for sleep to overtake her, knowing that she would never wake up again. She would never be able to tell Harry that she always loved him as more than a friend. She would not be able to see her best fiends for the last time. As sleep consumed her senses, she silently thanked Ron and Harry for making her feel accepted even if it was a lie. That last thing she felt before she closed her eyes, was a solitary tear roll down her cheek.
