Laying on her side, Valerie reached out and stroked her cat. She wondered about the changes not just in Bambi but in all three of them these last few days. Even before the aliens had arrived in her pool, she'd felt as though her whole world had been turned upside down. She no longer knew what she wanted after having her heart broken two times now by Ted. It hurt her even more to realize that she already knew the strangers sharing her home better than she'd ever known the real "Doctor Love".

Bambi twisted around her hand, purring deeply, and started to lick her fingers. Maybe Candy was right, Val thought. Maybe she had done the best thing by kicking Ted out, but she felt so lonely right now. She watched Bambi through the tears blurring her gaze. She knew she could go just a few feet and have more of some of the best fun she'd ever had in her whole life, but the three wonderful guys who had been sharing her world would soon be gone. Then she really would be alone with only Bambi for company.

There had been a time before Ted, Valerie remembered, when it had only been Bambi and her. She'd thought then that Bambi was all she needed, but then she'd fallen for Ted and everything had changed. Val had thought they'd been happy, but looking back now, she could see all the times Ted had been furious with her, all those little moments that he'd hurt her before breaking her heart big time.

Valerie sniffled. Bambi sucked her fingers, and Val looked at her in surprise through her tears. "You haven't been this happy since . . . " Her words trailed off for a moment. Then she admitted aloud to them both, "Since before Ted."

Bambi's purr deepened; Valerie's thoughts turned inward for a moment. They'd both been happier without Ted, she was starting to realize. She laughed as Bambi nibbled her fingers again. "What's gotten into you? You've never been this high on catnip even!"

Mac had called the stroke that had made her best friend so happy a love touch. Gazing at Bambi frisking around, Val wondered what that love touch would really feel like. Mac would probably be the best, most passionate, and sweetest lover ever. But would he stay that way the morning after, she wondered, or would he turn into a jerk like all of Earth's guys?

It didn't matter. She would never know. He was an alien. They couldn't make love, and yet as she heard her door creaking open, Val found herself wishing that she could know, just once, what the love tap did feel like. She was so intent on listening to Mac that she didn't notice Bambi get down. She longed to know, just once in her life, how it felt to truly be loved, and though Val doubted she'd ever know, she would know how true love really soared before the night was over.

The End
