I admit it's… scary seeing a grown man completely break down; to see him gasp for air between sobs. It's not a sight any person should see… but I did…

"Sir, are you alright?" My tone was soft, almost motherly.
He had his gloved hands laced together, his elbows propped up on the desk. Dark locks of hair, normally so neat, fell haphazardly over those white gloves.
"Colonel Mus—"
"Can…" his voice proved he was struggling not to crack, not to break again, "Will you stay for a while?"

"Sir?" I stepped in his office, shutting (an instinctively locking) the pallid door behind me. I walked to him, wanting more than anything in the world to hold him in my arms and to comfort him. But I stopped a few steps before I reached his desk.

"He was a great man, Sir…" I tried to pick my words carefully, "He was a devoted father and husband, a great friend…"
"Why him?" His hands lowered and the dark gaze of his eyes fell on me. His tearstained cheeks (and tears alike) tugged on my heartstrings and I noticeably flinched.
"I can't answer that." I replied quietly. My eyes stung and my mind was yelling not to cry. It was a weakness that I myself haven't showed since I was little.
And somebody had to be strong for him…

I jumped when his fists slammed on the desk. I watched him warily as he rose to his feet, going over to the window and starting out at the downpour.
'It really is raining now.' I thought.
His shoulders were shaking and through just his white shirt, that was very clear. His jacket, I noticed, was slung carelessly over the back of his chair. I took a step towards him, "He wouldn't like to see you like this, Colonel."
"Roy…" he hissed.
I sucked in a small breath, "Roy…" I repeated. But it didn't feel bad to say his name… no matter how against code it was.

A few more advances and I touched his arm lightly. He turned and looked down at me.
The next thing I knew, his arms were wrapped around me and he was freely sobbing in my shoulder. My arms found their way around his torso. He fell to the ground, and I had no choice but to follow his suit, shaking his head.

"He can't leave yet!" He cried, "What about his wife and daughter? What about pushing me through the ranks… what about everybody here who depends on him…"
"Gracia and Elysia are being taken care of, Roy… They'll be fine." I leaned back a little, tilting his chin up so his onyx eyes met my hybrid of amber and red, "And I'm still here to make sure you become Fuhrer…"
It was a good while before he calmed down and the tears subsided.

So here we are, sitting in each other embrace.
Colonel spoke up first after the long silence, "Hawkeye… there's something Maes wanted me to do before he died… undoubtedly still wants me to accomplish."

I looked up at him prior to his hand sliding gently under my chin and him leaning down to capture my lips with his own.
I admit, I was upset when he pulled away, "He wanted me to get a girlfriend…" his cheeks turned a faint red.
"I'd be honored to help you fulfill his request." I whispered, sliding my arms around him once more.
We curled up on the couch in his office – Roy being the first to fall asleep. I think he liked to do things before everybody else. But as I closed my eyes, just when I whispered "Thank you Hughes…" a single tear slipped down my cheek…

And I knew our desist friend was looking out for us…
