Quietly, slowly, discretely, the snowflake landed on her flushed cheek, then melted due to her irregular body heat. Cursing it beneath her breath, the leopardess hugged her knees to promote further body warmth. Alone, exhausted, and defeated, she unintentionally fell on her side and the snow beneath her turned scarlet...
"Aah!" the girl awakened with a start. She rested her forehead on two shaking hands as she allowed her heart rate to decrease. Her eyes were wide with fear and several of her blonde spikes were plastered to her sweat-soaked face. A single tear rolled down her cheek and mingled with the sweat. Swallowing any and all saliva in her mouth, her demeanor hardened and she collected herself. ~Damn dream~. She turned her head to the clock, which flashed 3:12 at her. She got to her feet and dragged herself into her bathroom.
*Flick!*
The lights turned on suddenly. A different person would strain their eyes against the light. Hers adapted in a split second with the slightest of thought. She stood in front of her mirror. She saw a confused, perhaps angry tomboy staring at her. Her face was rough from countless battles. Her eyes were scared. ~Why? Why this dream? Why... why am I afraid to go to sleep?~ "Ah, shut up!" she yelled at herself. Then there was silence betrayed only by the heaving of her chest. Silently, she laughed at herself, a short, dry, contemptuous laugh, then turned off her bathroom light and went back to sleep...
