Reassurance

Nanao stuffed the pile of papers neatly on Kyoraku's desk. She expected him to come see her once he was back from battle like he always does. But this time he didn't. Maybe it is wrong of her to just assume he would.

She stood up and let out a sigh. It had been a long day. But he is okay, he assured her a little by the hell butterfly he sent her. But she wouldn't be truly at ease until she sees him.

Should she go over there? She hesitated. Maybe she interrupts him. Snorting, she thought about all the times he showed up at her house unannounced. And now she's worried about checking on him.

Even if he's too tired she could just leave immediately. He wouldn't be mad at her for checking on him. She's acting ridiculous, she thought.

After an internal debate she slowly walked to his house. She would just knock on the door to see if he was already asleep. If he slept she would go home.

It was already dark and very cold outside. The icy wind bit her in the face. She quickened her pace a little.

His house still looks the same. The old wooden green door, secured by a lock. Even after knowing him for so long she hasn't been here a lot. He usually comes to her place.

She searched for his reiatsu but couldn't feel it there. That is strange. Maybe he didn't go home after all. Regardless, she knocked on his door softly. As not to wake him up if he is asleep.

After another minute or so she turned around to leave. But then she heard his voice.

"Nanao-chan, is that you?"

She quickly spun around but didn't answer immediately. The strange thing is she still can't feel his reiatsu. She frowned. But is still relieved to hear his voice.

"You can come in if you want, lovely. The door is open."

He sounds awake, even after the battle. Maybe he isn't too tired after all. But then he could have seen her at the office. Alarm bells went off in her head, but she quickly shoved the feeling down. He probably wanted to get home as soon as possible. It's important to see familiar surroundings again, she thought.

She reached for the handle and hesitantly opened the door. Little did she know the taicho of the 8th division is actually recovering at the 4th.

I wrote this a long time ago. It's really short but thanks for reading anyway,
