Chapter 1
Kenta sat on the couch in the B-Pit, looking down at his swinging feet. All the hard work, all that training to make himself better and to gain hisapproval; gone. All because of Nemesis, Ryuga was gone.
"Kenta, we're going to the Beypark; wanna come?" Gingka interrupted his thoughts.
"Sure, it could be fun!" He responded, wondering how in the world he could manage to sound so upbeat while his heart was breaking.
After a few battles, Madoka announced that she was going to get some ice-cream.
"Any special flavour for you, Kenta? "
"No thanks. I'm okay."
As she hustled Gingka and Benkei off, she gave him an understanding smile. He gave a sad grin of his own, grateful that she saw his need for some alone time. As the sun cast its dying rays of gold across the sky, Kenta wandered around for a while and decided to climb a small hill to view the sunset properly. As he climbed the last few feet, he froze in his tracks.
It couldn't be, but there he was, looking as scary and regal as ever, Ryuga, leaned against a tree, eyes fixed on the amber sky. Kenta gaped in absolute shock for a few seconds, but his overwhelming joy got the best of him and he raced towards the elder male, giving him a tight hug.
Ryuga was surprised to feel a pair of arms around him and he was about to pry the intruder off, but when he saw Kenta, crying happy tears out of his closed eyes, he just had to be polite and return the greeting.
"I... thought you were gone… forever," Kenta choked out when they had finished the oddly sentimental reunion.
"Don't ever underestimate me, kid,"
And after that, as friends, they looked at the sky together, each enjoying the other's company.
Later
When the others returned, they found a widely smiling Kenta walking towards them.
"You're looking a lot better, what happened?"Madoka asked.
"I just feel better, that's all. Now let's just go home".
"Okay," said Gingka, giving a confused grin.
Benkei hoisted Kenta on his shoulders and they headed back to the B-Pit. As Kenta gave one last glance behind him, he caught a glimpse of Ryuga smirking at him before he began walking in the opposite direction. Kenta smiled.
Some things never change.
