Hi, guys! So this isn't actually how the story starts, but it's one of the first extracts I wrote. I wanted to upload it and see if there was anyone who was interested in actually reading the story as a whole. There are several different plots and sub-plots, but the Dawn-Kenny-Paul relationship is one of the main focuses.
Other plots involve characters such as Ash, Misty, May, Drew, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Clemont, Max and Bonnie. For example, Cilan and Iris's struggles to have a baby and Max and Bonnie's wedding are two other main plot points I have. The children of all the main characters are included in these stories, too!
Let me know what you guys think!
Kenny held his head in his hands and proceeded to pound it against the table, mumbling something that Ash and Drew couldn't hear. They felt terrible for Kenny, and looked at him sympathetically. They couldn't even begin to put themselves in his situation.
Ash started rubbing Kenny's back and attempted to comfort him, saying things like, "It's for the best, Kenny" and "We're gonna be here for you no matter what". Drew watched them, and then his eyes wandered to the front door, whose bell had just dinged, indicating that someone had just entered.
"Oh, fuck." said Drew.
Ash threw him a perplexed, and then saw what he was staring at.
"Shit." Ash gasped.
Paul had just entered the bar, his purple-hair filthy as it always was and his eyes scanning the room, as if he was looking for someone. Ash and Drew quickly glanced at one another in worry.
"Don't say anything," Ash whispered to him.
Ash and Drew didn't want Kenny and Paul to cause a scene if they were made aware of the other's presence, so they tried their best to ensure Kenny didn't look behind him, where Paul was standing and talking to the gruff bartender.
"You know, I really appreciate you guys helping me through this." said Kenny, who was seemingly regaining himself. "I know you're friends with Dawn, too, so you're not going to pick sides, but it's a real help that I have friends like you, May and Misty."
"No, problem."
"That's what friends are for."
"I think I'm going to go get another drink." said Kenny, slowly rising from his seat.
"No, don't!" exclaimed Ash, leaping to his feet and placing a forceful hand on his shoulder. Kenny blinked in confusion and Ash said quickly, "I'll go get it for you. Gin, right?"
Kenny questioned his enthusiasm, but allowed Ash to get up for him anyway, shrugging it off as a friendly gesture. Ash stumbled to the bar, trying to make it so that Paul didn't notice him.
But of course, Paul wasn't as stupid as Ash.
"Ash? What the hell are you doing in here?" he asked roughly.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Ash said casually. "I'm having a drink. Yeah, a scotch please. Thank you." he mentioned to the bartender. "I could ask you the same question."
"It's none of your business," grunted Paul. But to Ash's glaring face, he added, "Although if you must know, I was hoping Dawn was in here."
"What?" Ash repeated, frowning. "Why do you want to see her?"
"I need to talk to her," said Paul, taking a sip of his beer.
"About what?" Ash asked, trying to sound as relaxed as possible despite his curiosity rising.
"I said it's none of your business." Paul barked once again. Unfortuntaely, his heightened volume attracted the attention of Kenny, who had never looked angrier in his entire life.
"Paul." he said loudly, ignoring Drew's pleas for him to stay seated. Kenny walked up to him and the two fixed each other with a piercing glare that scared even Ash, who was concerned over what was going to happen.
"What do you want?" Paul said nastily. He was a good half foot taller than Kenny, and was nearly towering over him. Kenny, however, was unfazed.
"You know perfectly well what my problem is, you bastard." growled Kenny. "You slept with my girlfriend."
"So?" spat Paul. "She's the one who started talking to me that night, FYI."
"You're the one who kept giving her more drinks and told her go back to your place with you." Kenny retaliated with blazing eyes. "You could have stopped it from happening."
"Now why would I have done that?" mocked Paul, smirking at him. "A beautiful woman – a drunk, beautiful woman – wants to get back at her puny-ass boyfriend and she's willing to get naked to do so. How could I say no?"
Paul was about to take a sip from his glass, but it fell to the floor and smashed into hundreds of sharp fragments when Kenny punched him square in the nose, causing blood to trickle down his face.
The place had been filled with conversationalists making small chitchat, but that quickly disintegrated and everyone in the room gasped as Paul's back smashed into the counter behind him. Kenny was still standing, fists clenched, shaking in fury and humiliation.
Ash panicked, and hastily took Kenny by the arm.
"Come on, we need to get out of here now before he realises what you've done."
Kenny threw Ash's hand off of him, and yelled, "I'm not afraid of that home-wrecking son of a bitch!"
Drew quickly joined Ash and shared his horrified expression as Paul got up, snarling at the 5"10 man in front of him. Both had their hands clenched into a fist
"Big fucking mistake." Paul said in a dangerously low tone as his bulky arm rose and prepared to take a swing. Kenny closed his eyes and braced himself, fully prepared to accept the hit, but nothing came. Instead, Paul fell to the floor again, moaning in agony.
Opening his eyes, Kenny saw that Drew had just shielded him from Paul's attack. He had grabbed his fist, twisted it, and then flipped him over. People were beginning to stand up and look over their tables to get a better look at the fight that was going on.
"Woah, Drew…" said Ash, wide-eyed. "I didn't know you were so strong."
"I only use it for self-defence." Drew responded, pulling Kenny away. "Now come on, we need to go before this gets any worse."
Kenny once again refused to follow his friends, and pushed him away.
"You guys don't get it do you? How would you feel if the man who slept with your wife, got her pregnant and wrecked your relationship was standing right in front of you? Would you just walk away without getting answers?" He yelled. Drew bit his lip. Ash looked away. "Yeah, I didn't think so."
"What did you just say?" mumbled Paul, rubbing his head and groaning.
"Fuck off, you know what you did. Why can't you just stop playing innocent and admit that you seduced her when you knew she was at her most vulnerable?"
"Fine, I'll admit to that." barked Paul, rising to his feet once again. "But what the hell do you mean she's pregnant?"
"Don't play dumb!" shouted Kenny. "She already told me she broke the news to you and that you didn't want anything to do with her."
"I don't know what that lying bitch has been saying," said Paul, "but she didn't tell me anything about her being pregnant. I haven't even spoken to her since that night. I've been coming in here every night since to see if I can see her again."
Kenny wanted to call him out, and scream that he was a conniving, manipulative bastard, and question why he wanted to meet up with Dawn again, but something in his head wouldn't let him. He threw a quick, troubled look at Ash and Drew, who seemed to be thinking the same as him.
Dawn had lied.
She hadn't spoken to Paul at all.
He didn't know anything about his baby.
Kenny, who just a few seconds ago was filled with rage and anger, now felt nothing but pure betrayal and heartache. Again. He stood rooted to the spot for a few seconds, Paul looking at him expectantly for an explanation that never came. Kenny stormed off, slamming the door behind him, not wanting all the staggered bar-goers, and especially not Paul, to see the tears that were streaming down his face.
