"Primrose Everdeen!"
Wh- What?
This can't be happening! My name was in there once- once!
How could, I, of all people, be the one who will have to face the cruel arena? Why me?
I'm too stunned to think, tough somehow my feet begin their journey to the stage.
Shaking, I make my way through the crowds of people who are turning away from me as I walk. I'm too shocked to cry. I gulp, my hands stiff by my side, my head high.
And suddenly, I hear her.
"Prim!" she shrieks.
I spin around to face Katniss, from a distance, as she's running towards me. In a second, I know what she's about to do.
"I volunteer!" she gasps just as the Peacekeepers are blocking her. "I volunteer as tribute!"
"NO!" I screech, clinging to her as she tries to get to the stage. "No!"
"Prim, Prim, let go, let go!" she's saying, but I ignore her pleads. By the tone of her voice, I can tell that she's on the verge of breaking down. But I won't go back to mother. I won't let her leave me.
"Katniss, no!"
Gale picks me up, out of nowhere, and my attempts at being released fail miserably. "No! Katniss, you can't go!"
She keeps her head high and her eyes away from me, and marches towards the stage.
Gale looks at me sadly and places me next to my mother. "I'm sorry, Prim."
It's too late. Katniss is onstage, Effie Trinket talking to her but I can't hear.
My mother wraps her arms around me, and I cry into her shirt, each sob suddenly sounding like the cannons that symbolize the death of a fallen tribute.
