Hi everyone. This is just a quick one shot I wrote after the idea got in my head. Plus there's not enough klaus and Elijah fics out there. I should be updating my other two stories soon too (I know I suck badly at keeping up with that and I'm sorry). My MacBook stopped working but luckily I figured out how to write/post on my iPad. Anyways this story takes place after season 3. I saw someone online mention the idea of a hetric helping with the werewolf bites problem. I have no idea if any of the hetrics on Tvd are even alive still (I'm behind) but for this fanfic assume they are. Please review :)
Their family was finally together after five years. Hayley had found a witch to reverse Rebekah's hex, and found some hetric vampire to suck the magic from the werewolf vemon from kol and Elijah. That only left Klaus who was still in Marcel's possession with papa tunde's blade in him. This however became less of a problem after Freya found a way to create a dagger for Marcel, similar to the daggers the hunters originally created for them. Kol and Elijah quickly took care of Marcel and found it easy enough to find klaus after compelling one of Marcel's vampires to lead them.
Everything fell into place after that. Klaus was more then willing to join them in taking back New Orleans and it didn't take long to win over Marcel's vampires loyalty, especially since there only other choice was death. Everything had gone right for their family, and yet Elijah could sense there was something wrong with his younger brother.
Every sense Elijah had yanked that blade out of klaus, he had acted different. His brother was extremely distant from the rest of the family, which in itself is always a cause for concern. He also seemed extremely paranoid over Marcel. Marcel had been daggered and had no power over them, yet Klaus couldn't seem to live with the fact he wasn't dead. Not that Elijah wanted Marcel to still be alive but it was definitely the least of his priorities, unlike Klaus who was over obsessed with making it their top priority.
Elijah recalled a moment between Niklaus and Freya. He remembered ending a disagreement between his siblings several nights ago. Niklaus had spent every moment that he did come out of his room, trying to get their sister find a spell to end Marcel for good. Freya, as excepted, got tired of spending all her time looking for one, after all it wouldn't had change much and she needed a break. Of course his younger brother was obsessed with finding something and little else mattered to him.
"They nothing to find, the only way is the channel the ancestors who no longer exist, so what ever hate you are so desperately hanging on to, let it go.", Freya yelled at Klaus.
"He deserves to die, I don't care what you have to sacrifice to make that happen. You're not what's important to me, Marcel's death is what matters."
Klaus had a certain coldness to his eyes causing Freya to soon mimic it. Elijah had been watching from upstairs, trying to decide whether or not to intervene.
"He deserves to live as much as you do. At least he cares for his family." Freya now looking as angry as klaus was became enough motivation for Elijah to quickly step in.
"Niklaus, Marcel is currently as good as dead. There's no need to break up our family over him." Klaus looked over at him with the same amount of anger and started to walk past them both. "You're as pathetic as her."
After that night, Klaus had ignored him. He did however leave Freya alone after that night to Elijah's own surprise. He had manage to ignore everyone in their family even more than originally which was impressive in itself. Even with Hope, Klaus was more distant then he used to be with her. That was one of the things that surprised Elijah the most. Klaus never pushed away his daughter even in his worse times but now it was like Hayley was the only one ever to be seen taking care of Hope.
Elijah soon started finding dead humans all over the town and even some desiccated vampires. It didn't take him long to realize that these were the remains of Klaus's killing sprees. He cleaned up after his brother even if he couldn't find a reason to explain it. Although that explained where he disappeared off too at night.
He wanted to ask his brother what bothered him so much, but just sparking a conversation between the two was a challenge. He spent weeks watching, as it seemed every part of happiness that Niklaus once had, slowly disappeared. One day he decided he had enough and walked into Niklaus's room. He was surprised to see him staring at the same blade he had been stabbed with, almost like he saw something in it.
"I'm going to shove this into Marcel's heart. You were right Elijah, there's no need for him to die just yet." Klaus said, still seemingly fascinated by the thing. "Enough of all of this. You're not risking waking someone who could be the death of this family, simply because of a revenge fantasy." Elijah watched his brother trying to notice some reaction from the younger vampire. "I will do what I want. Marcel is my problem, not yours.",Klaus replied, still avoiding eye contact.
"Marcel attacked the whole family, Niklaus. We have to put it behind us if we want to survive. We got everything back, you finally get to raise your daughter in your city. I'm not going to allow you to take that away from yourself.", Elijah stated walking closer to Klaus. Klaus suddenly turned towards him. "You don't get to say that! You were in a deep sleep while magically linked to the rest of our siblings minds. I was alone being constantly tortured by this." He looked back at the blade while holding it up for Elijah to see.
Elijah looked towards the floor for a second. He knew his brother must had been suffering extreme pain all that time, he had just assumed he would quickly recover after it was over. After all Niklaus had survived the hunter curse and all the pain his enemies has put him through over and over again over the years. They were vampires, pain didn't hold the significance it once did a thousand years ago. Yet he couldn't deny the fact that Niklaus was clearly still suffering because sacrifice that he made for them.
"Marcel will pay for that someday, that I promise but we can't allow that to take over our judgement. We finally have gotten peace here. Hope needs that and we need that." Elijah put a comforting hand on Klaus's shoulder, trying not to do anything that might upset his brother more.
"There is no peace going on in my mind Elijah. All I can think about is the pain and hopelessness I felt for those five years. It was never ending and I was truly convinced that the blade was going to drive me to insanity. Then again, perhaps it did. I thought killing Marcel might would allow me peace and when that plan didn't work, I thought ripping off the heads of the vampires that were loyal to him would at least help but the end result has been and will always be the same. Marcel did win, he made me lose everything by first separating me from my child and my family and then forcing me into hell." Klaus had tears in his eyes while he looked at Elijah for some kind of a solution to the torment.
Elijah pulled his brother into a hug, wishing he could take away the memories. "You have not lost everything. You still have your family and your sanity. I'm not going to allow that pathetic excuse of a vampire to take that from any of us Niklaus. Those memories will fade over time and you will become strong enough to conquer them. I will always be here to help you conquer them." It wasn't much but it was a sense of hope for the future and hopefully it was what his brother needed from him.
