Being retired from a position does not mean retiring from responsibility. It was simply a trading of one set of weapons for another, a change of battlefields and armour. Pen and paper or his voice for weapons, an office or a meeting as the battlefield, a suit as armour… the last wasn't much of a change though.
Yet, he still battled for the same cause, the same opponents, though now in a more roundabout way. Where once he fought head on, now he planned and sent others in his place while protecting these same fighters. He was now in the position he once wished someone occupied when he was the fighter.
Sometimes he missed being on the field. Missed having people who he can depend on standing beside him as he faced battle after battle. Yet, he was past that point. He was where he was needed most. And that was not in the line of fire, nor was it in wide blue skies where he was free to make mistakes. Push comes to shove; he knew he can take the field again, outdated methods notwithstanding.
It was a loss for the field when he sealed his abilities away when he chose the "desk job." But reasons will not permit for anything less if he wanted a better future for those who came after him. Him, and all that is left of his generation, knew that it was all for the best. Though now their exploits have all been erased from the new generations memories. New heroes for the next generation now abound.
Retirement wasn't so bad, bland but not bad.
AN: And it begins. It's will be at most 20ish chapters unless the spark dies and I kill off Hirato just to end it. Love it, hate it, I'll try to be IC as much as I can but this will be headcanon, in other words how I read their characters in the manga slightly influenced by Faikitty and Azii. Ciao!
