There was a cough and then a gasp of air. A hand gripped between two slightly larger ones. A lock of hair swept over a clammy forehead. Bloodshot eyes set in swollen and bruised sockets. Raspy whispers of love expelled from chapped lips. Promises said with false confidence. The hands move, fluttering over a broken body, searching for a place to rest. A broken laugh and an assurance. Hands resting on shoulders, gripped too tight, reassuring the other that they're there. A shaky breath and a bloody cough. A strangled plea, "Don't leave. I need you, please." A smile, a hand brushing a tear away. A reassurance, "I'll still watch over you." A last shaky breath.
Silence.
A broken sob. A yell of anguish. A broken, empty body cradled to a chest. A body racked with sobs, rocking back and forth. A hand brushing through dark hair. Eyes closed, tears leaking out. "Cas, you can't leave me, please. I need you." Eyelids open and piercing green shines with a soul-deep pain. "Please Cas, it hurts. Come back." Words chocked out. A crash of a door being kicked open and a barricade being broken. The growl of a beast on the hunt. Flesh being torn. A gunshot. "'s okay Cas. Gonna be there soon." A mouthful of blood being spit of the ground. A smile and a bloody face. A gurgle as breath leaves punctured lungs.
Silence.
"Dean? Cas? You in here?" A shout. A hand brushing aside long hair. A flashlight beam. A crash. Feet running, knees hitting concrete. A sob. A cellphone hastily dialed. A plea for help, choked out between sobs. Strong arms giving out, a thud as a giant body hits the ground. Sobbing. Sirens. People moving around. A shout to draw attention. Bodies being put on stretchers. A brother left alone. A cars tires screeching. A silent man, sitting alone on a concrete floor. Rushed footsteps. Red. Small arms circling a muscled chest. A sister never wanted comforting a brother never had. Sympathetic murmuring. Guided footsteps. A car driving away.
Silence.
