A/N: This is based strictly on what I learned from the movie, which isn't much considering.

A woman screamed in agony.
That blasted demon did this to me!
She sucked in air as she bore down as hard as she could.
She didn't hate the demon. In fact, she loved him as much as her husband.
Her husband; that brave man who had gone off to fight against slavery. The man who died in battle, leaving her so woefully sad and alone. She couldn't blame him, though. It was something they both believed in.
She bore down again and thought of that wonderful demon.
She was half demon herself, though none could tell. And it was that demon half that he heard wailing in sorrow.
He appeared in the guise of her dead husband, but she knew. She was grateful for it. He was so kind and gentle, she couldn't help falling in love.
Again she clenched her teeth and pushed.
I really should be with an Otherworldly doctor.
There was no telling what unique traits the child would have. No doubt the doctors would perform horrid tests as he grew. But she knew his fate even then.
With another push, she felt the baby leave her body along with much of her life energy.
"What in God's name..." the doctor's voice drifted to her weary mind.
She looked up to see her demon husband hovering over her, unseen by the others. The human visage faded away showing all his Otherworldly glory. And she knew he was there to take her with him.
"Nurse, come look at this," the doctor called.
"Yes, doct—oh, good heavens," the nurse yelped.
She tried reaching out to her demon, but was too weak. She could feel herself slipping away.
"It's like a fish-boy," the doctor exclaimed. "It even has gills."
Gills. Like his father.
With her last ounce of strength she whispered "Water. Put the baby in water."
"Right." The doctor agreed. "Get a tub of water big enough to submerge the baby."
"Yes, sir," the nurse said hesitantly.
She turned her head to see the doctor holding her baby. He was so beautiful. She wanted to hold him, but she knew she would never be able to. Not in this world.
She managed a smile and a long exhale. She could feel her demon husband reach down for her soul and cradle it lovingly against his own.

A flurry of bubbles surrounded Abe as he awoke in the middle of the night. He felt sad, like he could cry if he weren't in his tank. He didn't even know why. He repositioned himself and went back to sleep.
