Penny knocked on the door of Apartment 4A. No answer, just as she expected. She had heard them leave this morning at the same time they always did, and they really weren't expected home until late afternoon. But she knocked just to be sure, like she did every Tuesday afternoon at this time.
The emergency key to Leonard and Sheldon's apartment was given to Penny not too long after she moved in into 4B, and she had reciprocated, both sets of keys were meant to be used in an emergency only.
Penny knew that the boys had used her key from time to time for non-emergency requirements, like when Sheldon just got into the mood to clean her apartment. The first time it did freak her out, but now it doesn't really worry her, actually it was quite nice to come home from work to a nice clean and tidy apartment, she really should thank Sheldon one of these days.
The lock yielded and Penny entered 4A, the apartment that was like a second home to her. It seemed empty without them there, especially without him. It was quiet, but just in case she yelled out.
"Anyone home? I've run out of milk again, can I have some of yours?"
Of course there was no reply just like every Tuesday, no reply, and just like every time she said it she really hadn't run out of milk.
She sat in his spot just because she could, she loved to sit in his spot. She sank down into the seat and just enjoyed sitting there, just imaging Sheldon saying to her "That's my spot". A smile formed on her lips.
Penny stood up and walked down the hall pass the bathroom and stood next to his door, she knocked just in case, no answer. She opened the door and entered Sheldon's room, the room that people shouldn't be in.
Penny walked over to the bed and set the small alarm clock that she was carrying down on the table next to the bed and made sure that it was set for 2pm, just in case. She felt under the pillow and grabbed the Tuesday night pyjamas that she knew Sheldon would have placed there this morning after making his bed in readiness for tonight. She changed into his pyjamas and crawled under the covers. She slept a sound sleep until the alarm went off at 2pm. Then she lay there. The pillow smelt of Sheldon, baby powder, marker pens, wet wipes all mixed up together with the Star Wars shampoo and conditioner that he used.
Penny looked at the time, 2.30pm, she got out of the bed and remade it, placing the Tuesday night pyjamas back under the pillow just as Sheldon did. The first time Penny had done this she fretted the whole night long she was certain Sheldon would notice either the bed not being correct or the pyjamas were wrinkled or just not right, but he never said anything or seemed to suspect anything, not like he had with the milk.
Penny shut apartment 4A door behind her and returned to 4B to prepare to get ready for work. She would see him tonight at work, Tuesday's were the best days.
